Unable to load borrowed (library) books into digital editions.

Feb 12, 2015 Feb 12, 2015

I have a Mac with OS X 10.10.2 (Yosemite).  I am running Digital Editions 4.0.3.  The same problem also happened on Digital editions 4.0.2.

I have signed into Digital editions with my Adobe ID and can see all of my books (I migrated from a PC).  However, I cannot open any new borrowed (library) epub books in digital editons.  The error message I get is Error getting License. License Server Communication Problem: E_ACT_NOT_READY

I have tried signing out of digital editions.  In the older (4.0.2_ version I was able to do this, sign back in again, but still had the same problem (same error message).  In the newer digital editions when I try to erase authorization information, I get the error message Unable to erase authorization information.  Please try again after some time.

I am pretty sure this a mac-only problem as it works perfectly well and I am able to add borrowed books etc on my PC.  I am new to mac so maybe I am missing something obvious....but from reading other things it seems like this is a long-standing issue.  Any help?

Not helpful. I don't even know what registry key the person is talking about.

This has been discussed earlier in the thread. It didn't work for me, but

it has for others.

I've done this numerous times, ebooks will not download on IPAD nor will they transfer from MAC to first edition nook, book is there but will not open, remove it from all places and reload and still does the same thing.

I am having the same problem. I frequently borrow books from our local library's online web site and I usually get kindle formats but unfortunately some are only available in epub. I ran into this problem with a book I wanted to read tonight. This is the first time I've ever installed ADE on my mac and I'd rather not have to use my work computer for this.

I registered my computer with ADE using adobe id and I get the same error message when trying to load the book:

Error getting License. License Server Communication Problem: E_ACT_NOT_READY

When trying to deregister it, I get the other error:

Unable to erase authorization information.  Please try again after some time.

I'm not behind a firewall and I have constant internet connection. I've even tried uninstalling the software and reinstalling but I suppose I missed some files because it's still registered when I reinstall. This is terrible. I can't use it at all.

I had the same problem and followed the steps below to fix it.

Mac OS

  • Open Adobe Digital Editions.

  • Press Cmd-Shift-D to deauthorize Adobe Digital Editions.

  • Select Erase Authorization.

  • Click OK and quit Adobe Digital Editions.

  • Navigate to /Users//Library/Application Support/Adobe/Digital Editions and drag the activation.dat file to the trash.

I had a similar problem because I did not know the correct Adobe password.  In desperation, I deleted the activation file by following the steps below and then created a new Adobe ID with a different email address.  This solved the problem for me.  Hope it works for you.

Mac OS

  • Navigate to /Users//Library/Application Support/Adobe/Digital Edition and drag the activation.dat file to the trash.

Note: If you are unable to find the activation.dat file in Mac OS X 10.7 or later versions, see Can't see user library files in Mac OS X 10.7 and later.

  • Open Adobe Digital Editions and reauthorize.

Thanks for your reply. I have gone down the deauthorisation/reauthorisation path, several times. Haven't tried setting up a different account with a different email address. Something else to consider. THanks again.
