I have set up an interior scene and I have created light sources outside that are pointed through a window. The lighting coming though looks good but it does not fill the room the way natural light would. Does anyone have any good tips on how to achieve this effect?

Hello, can we have a screenshot of the scene and the setup for the lights? It's easier ;

Sure thing, this is a low-res render . There seems to be a lack of ambient light in the room.

I would fix it by adding sunlight from the window mate

I gave that a try already but the amount of light needed to fill the room with enough ambient light ends up burning out parts of the scene as seen here. Is there a way to control the ambient light in the room withouth having to increase the intensity of the sun (or other directoinal lights)?

yes first of all share the files for best results
however you can rebuild your light by using a different background
example 1 = the room on the left of picture has lights in the left roof so will look better because the window isn't the only light coming in
example 2
this rendor does a better job of selling the room lights to people looking at the image.

When you say background image, are you referring to using an HDRI image to light the scene or just a differnet background image that is already rendered from Adobe Stock like this one:

if this room of yours actually exists in the real world someplace then yes a hdri will give best results but if its just a mockup of random walls then generally one of the premade image templetes from Stock or whereever else is going to give what you want
