Out of nowhere Dimenions is giving me an 'Unable to import model' error for any OBJ I attempt to import. Inititally I was thinking it was an issue with a new model I downloaded, but I'm receiving the same error with all OBJ files I've previously imported into Dimensions. I've tried a fresh install, as well as previous versions. Not sure what to do next.
System:
Windows 10 Pro Ver 21H2
AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
32BG RAM
GeForce GTX 1660 Ti
Thank you for letting us know about this issue! The .obj file and Adobe Stock 3D assets import error has been fixed in the latest version of Dimension v3.4.9.

Same issue. Impossible to work through this issue with Abobe Support. They link to generic help support articles of no value. If they cared, there would be an adobe support rep in this thread.

same issue here... super frustrating. This started happening maybe two weeks ago, I figured it might just be my computer or something. Adobe needs to get their stuff together...

The problem is not an isolated issue and seemingly is problematic to everyone who keeps their software up to date. I thought it was only me and uninstalled and reinstalled the app. Apparantly this issue has been going on for well over a month. OBJ files I created work fine and some stock works fine as well as some of the Starter asets. I notified Adobe but no response after 3 weeks and I'm beginning to believe that theyre leaving us to twist in the wind.
Beyond fixing the issue, I would think that refunds will be in order for both the app and for stock.
I understand that there's a\the same or similar issue with Substance.

The work around will be tedious, revert back to Dn 3.4.7, and save every model in the starter assets to an .obj file.
then install the latest version 3.4.8 and now you have your library, I have a feeling Adobe is trying to get us to use their newly introduced Substance apps.
It is so obvious, first they stop 3D support in Photoshop 2023, then act as if they are moving them to Adobe illustrator, but Ai can't handle 3D with mesh points to make a model; the back bone of modeling is the mesh object. I'm using Blender from now on, they just released 3.5 .
Shame on you Adobe.

Yeah... adding mesh points to manipulate 3D objects in Illustrator would have been very handy. I guess i have to learn Blender now to modelling some more complex objects...

I have the same issue importing some models from Dimensions lybrary (iMac 27" 2019)... at fisrt i thought it was because not enough RAM but from what i notice here it's really about the latest version. However i don't have the same issue with imported .obj files from Illustrator.

I had issue with shortcut keys, I have to check on that later today.

It didn't work for me with v3.4.9 - the error when importing *.obj still occurs. Back to the v3.4.6 has worked and the import works without problems.

Unfortunately the import of *.obj is still not possible since months in v3.4.9 and we stay with v3.4.6 ...
When will this be fixed?

Hi Daniel, I dont have this problem in v3.4.9, I just checked it again today to make sure. I'm on a M1 Mac, importing shortcut is Cmnd + i. Make sure you hit the shortcut key F for bring to view after you import, sometimes they are out of view.
some trouble shooting; - can you use the models supplied in Dn, - close all apps except Dn and see if you can import an obj file, - try different obj files, or creat your own from Adobe illustrator. Last thing re-install Dn.
But i hope others can respond with the same issue, otherwise Adobe Tech has to get into it and help you.

Did you go through the steps I mentioned, are you able to use models from Dimension it's self?
I wish I can think of something else to help you.
can you post your build numbers?

I have tried a lot and also different ways of importing, but it is still not possible to import *.obj. It comes an error message that the import is not possible ... unchanged - we stay with v3.4.6

Could you take a screenshot of the error message. And what is the build number.
also, did you try to export an .obj file from Adobe Illustrator and see if you can import from Adobe dimension.
and are you in a Mac or PC, if on a Mac what Os and is it M1 Mac.
so this information will be in one post, hopefully tech will see it and maybe able to troubleshoot it.

Hi,
A new update for Adobe Dimnesion is out today August 8th, 2023 (U.S.) version 3.4.10.
Maybe now you can import your .obj files.
I did not read what the update is for. Maybe some one will report to us.
I found a link from Adobe regarding this new update 3.4.10, it's mainly a security update. I didn't see anything regarding features. https://helpx.adobe.com/security/products/dimension/apsb23-44.html
Thanks

Hi, you mentioned adobe assets library, do you mean the Starter assets that come with Adobe Dimension or the assets library you created by dropping you .obj from Adobe Iluutrator?
Please watch this video, it might clarify on imprting.

Also, try to use the shortcut Cmnd + I, for import a 3d model, this should bring you to your .obj file on your computer, once you select it, it will drop on you screen, if you cant see it, then hit letter F to bring it to view.
After you follow these steps and watching the video, let us know if it worked,.
