App Installer Freezes at "Initializing Installer"

App doesn't crash, just stops there and does nothing.  I forced quit it and couldn't run it again without a reboot.  After the reboot it ran again but it is frozen in the same place and isn't doing anything.  Past 20 min at this point.  Also, running on Mac Lion.

I actually think I figured it out.  I did what you said to create the logs but also did one other different thing.  When you open the file 'AdobeApplicationManager.dmg' it opens as usual.  Then when I run 'AdobeApplicationManager' the program is comes up with a dialog box asking if I should trust all accesses to that disk.  Normally as I have been I wouldn't check that.  This time I did and it ran fine.  Do you still want the logs?

I am having the same problem, none of the solutions described in this thread are working. Adding the asu.trace file doesn't change anything and the trace file is not even created.

asu.trace file will not solve anything but will generate the detailed logs which you can then send to me.

The logs will be created at

~/Library/Logs/AdobeDownload/LBS.log

~/Library/Logs/AdobeDownload/DLM.log

I would be happy to help and it would be easier if i can get the detailed logs.

For cleaning the AdobeApplicationManager or CS6 from machine, use this cleaner tool: http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html

you can install the adobe application manager directly from the site here: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4774


Once the installation is complete, ask them to use Adobe application manager from this shortcut: “/Applications/Adobe Application Manager”.

Which application are you trying to install?

Enable Root user : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1528

Library folder is hidden in MAC Lion.

Hold Option and Use the “Go” Menu to Show Library  : http://osxdaily.com/2011/07/22/access-user-library-folder-in-os-x-lion

I have an idea what it might be.  Going to check that out in a min.  Also FYI something is hanging if you 'Force Quit' the app installer which is not allowing it to be run again.  I'm not sure which process it is but will try to figure that out as well.  Requires me to reboot to run again, otherwise the app won't load at all and just bounces in the dock.

Please add my name to the list of people having problems with the new Creative Cloud installer (AdobeApplicationManager). To be clear on the symptoms:

1. Download the AdobeApplicationManager.dmg as prompted by Adobe.

2. Open the DMG

3. Run the AdobeApplicationManager. I have tried this both from within the DMG and from a copy I dragged to the desktop.

4. The dialog box "Initializing Installer" appears. There is not a prompt for granting disk access. Only the progress bar and the quit button.

5. Let it run for an hour -- nothing happens, except a file is created: ~/Library/Logs/AdobeDownload/LBS.log

6. The quit button does not work.

7. To stop the installer, I have to use Force Quit.

I attempted to re-download the DMG -- the Adobe site will not allow this. I think you are going to have to construct a clean up script to allow customers to revert their machines to the state before using the new AdobeApplicationManager. Then you will have to revisit the ApplicationManagerCode, because it is clearly incompatible with some Mac OS X Lion configurations.

We are investigating on our side about the problem. Can you please also share the detailed logs as described above.

Also, when you say that Adobe site doesn't allow you to download AdobeApplicationManager.dmg again, do you mean that it shows no option for download. Can you please restart your browser and try again.

If it still doesn't work, can you please run the cleaner tool to clean the AAM (only AAM and not any product) from your machine and try again. http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html

Here are the steps I took which very easily succeeded on my new Macbook Pro:

  1. Download the Creative Cloud Installer here: https://creative.adobe.com/products/creative-cloud. (CreativeCloudInstaller.dmg)
  2. An explanation: Instead of starting the Initializing process which keeps freezing, you will want to view the contents of Creative Cloud Installer folder where you will find a different method of installing the file. First, click on the downloaded file to open the Creative Cloud Installer. When you see the popup that says "Adobe Creative Cloud. Double-click to install" and shows the red Creative Cloud icon, do not double click!
  3. Instead, right-click the red Creative Cloud Installer icon, then select "Show Package Contents."
  4. Inside you will see a Contents folder. Open that.
  5. Inside that, you will see a MacOs folder. Open that.
  6. Click the Install file to open. Your Creative Cloud installation should begin successfully in the window that pops up!
