Apps won't update

Community Beginner ,
Jan 30, 2018 Jan 30, 2018

Hi,

when trying to update several Creative Cloud Apps, I got this error.

Captura de pantalla 2018-01-30 a les 11.15.55.png

I'm running a 2017 MacBook Pro with High Sierra (v. 10.13.2).

I've been using Creative Cloud for a few months now and updates always worked perfect.

Any suggestion how this problem should be fixed?

Thanks.

Ok I finally got everything working. I must admit this whole process has been frustrating. I would suggest that someone create detailed instructions on how to resolve this issue for both mac and windows. From searching FAQ, this forum and online most of the suggestions are out dated. For anyone on MacOS High Sierra who is having this issue try what I did from Below is a slightly modified version of the bridge code 146 issue mentioned in reply #2 of this thread.

Here's what I did to resolve the is

Hi Albert%20Folk%20Delgado,

Sorry for the trouble you had to face while trying to install your Adobe Creative Cloud products.

Just to confirm have you already tried the steps given here: Resolve Error Code 146 or 147 encountered while installing Adobe Creative Cloud desktop apps.,to resolve the issue? If not then please give it a try.

However, if you have already tried it and it didn't help, then I would recommend you to take a look at the following forum thread as well: Re: Adobe Bridge Update Error 146.

Let us know if this helps.

This is so frustrating. I'm running High Sierra and I've tried the resolutions listed on this page: Resolve Error Code 146 or 147 encountered while installing Adobe Creative Cloud desktop apps.

It seems like that works for some, but all of my app updates are failing now. Please actually make a fix for this Adobe, this is ridiculous. The workarounds people are doing seem so extraneous for something that should just work.

I tried to reinstall the Desktop App. When It finishes installing, it launches and I'm already logged in. I downloaded and used the Creative Cloud Uninstaller, but is there a possibility that it didn't completely remove the Desktop App?

Meanwhile, I'll try other solutions listed, but I'd like to avoid messing with the SIP of my Mac, unless it is absolutely necessary.

As so many people is pointing out, this a basic and important feature of the Creative Cloud and it should just work without having to mess with such sensitive issues.

Please, Adobe, start working on this and make it a priority!

OK, as someone else pointed out, I'm encountering an issue with the permissions.

When I tried to change permissions for one of the affected folders, I get a messages saying I'm not allowed to change them.

This is happening from the admin user.

Any idea why? How could I fix it?

Albert Folk Delgado, Wav91239375, and Garrickm, if the suggestions offered by Bani in message #2 are not resolving Error Code 146 then please contact our support team at Contact Customer Care so that direct assistance can be provided to resolve the error.

There have been some reports that individuals who remove their current installations and then reinstall through the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop application are successful in resolving Error Code 146.  Please see the following documents for details on how to complete the uninstall and reinstall process for Premiere Pro CC.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the Adobe Creative Cloud app twice and it doesn't resolve anything.

I've also gone through the steps of uninstalling Adobe Animate. Now when I go to the Creative Cloud app, it doesn't recognize it being on my computer and says 'install' rather than update. I still get the same error codes when trying to 'install.'

The thought of having to uninstall every app and reinstalling is such a waste of time and most likely won't solve the problem.

I feel like the solutions are helping a handful of people, while most are having to struggle through trying to update something that should be seamless.

Wow. So it looks like there's a new release of the Creative Cloud App that got installed on my machine today. I decided to try updating my apps again and all updated successfully. Finally. Thanks.

Dear Jeff,

thanks for your suggestions.

Right now I'm in the middle of some important projects. Besides the update problem, programs are working just fine, so I am not sure about risking uninstalling anything, after seeing how all this is playing out.

I'll definitely contact Customer Care as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, I see the problem is not isolated and many people are going through the same.

Are you working on it? Any idea about how will it be fixed? I'm sure it's not easy, but from the user (and client) point of view, we expect the update process to be as smooth as is supposed to be and not having to do so many workaround every time an app needs an update.

Best,

Albert.

For anyone on MacOS High Sierra who is having this issue try what I did from Below is a slightly modified version of the bridge code 146 issue mentioned in reply #2 of this thread.

Here's what I did to resolve the issue.

Follow these steps to disable SIP:

  1. Restart your Mac.
  2. When you hear the chime*, hold down Command-R and keep it held down until you see an Apple icon and a progress bar. Release. This boots you into Recovery Mode.
  3. From the Utilities menu, select Terminal.
  4. At the prompt type the following and then press Enter: csrutil disable
  5. Terminal should display a message that SIP was disabled and reboot is needed.
  6. From the  menu, select Restart.
  7. Then install the apps that were erroring out once you've rebooted.
  8. Then reboot back into recovery mode to enable csrutil by repeating step 4 but substituting disable with enable.

*I found out if you are using a bluetooth or 3rd party keyboard, holding down the keys as it reboots or from a cold start won't always work to boot into recovery mode. Wait for the chime and then hold down Command + R till you see the progress bar start to load. If it's slow to load after release then more than likely it's booting into recovery more.

So Adobe can i have credit on my monthly subscription since I spent 3+ hours trying to resolve this issue.

thanks,
g.

G, thank you for the update!

If others can resolve the error by disabling System Integrity Protection can you please update this public forum discussion.

Please also post what anti-virus software title, and version, you have installed on macOS.

Hi there,

I don't know if you found it already but the Adobe support # is 800-833-6687. I think I actually used their 24/7 chat support and explained my problem, and then they asked if they could take over my computer. The chat support is found here: Contact Customer Care. I initially had to choose a few different options (what software I needed help with, what issue, etc. before it shows you the blue button at the bottom "Show me my contact options." From there it shows you both the chat and phone support options.

Good luck!

Hi there, I am getting the same error - Update error - Unable to move file, then going further - Fatal error code 146.

Been trying for 2 weeks but no luck.

Tried repairing the desktop application but no luck, I am not happy at all.

Mac OS High Sierra user.

Very frustrating as I cannot find a phone contact support.

I am now considering in changing to Final Cut Pro.

I'm having the exact same problem: Adobe Creative Cloud keeps "messaging me" to update some of the apps, but when I do so (like After Effects CC), it get's to about 99% downloaded and then just errors out, the same error as others: "Update Failed. Unable to move the file. Rename the file and try again." Then I click the more information and get

Exit Code: 146

-------------------------------------- Summary --------------------------------------

- 2 fatal error(s), 0 error(s), 1 warnings(s)

FATAL: Error (Code = 146) executing in command 'MoveDirectoryCommand' for package: 'AdobeAfterEffects15AllTrial', version:15.0.1.73

FATAL: Error occurred in install of package (Name: AdobeAfterEffects15AllTrial Version: 15.0.1.73). Error code: '146'

I'm sorry Adobe but I shouldn't have to be dealing with parsing code for you guys. Or cobbling together various "solutions" together hoping something sticks. I have enough projects on my plate already. Updating apps used to work fine. And you should compensate garrickm for his fix (I'm trying that next). BTW mid-2015 MBP, running High Sierra 10.13.2. Been using CC for 2 years never this problem.

So I just had an Adobe rep take over my computer remotely for about 10 minutes. They fixed the problem—what they did, as best as I saw, was to manually trash the application folder (ex: Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2018), as well as the corresponding uninstall alias (found in Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers). After trashing these things, going into the Adobe CC app and clicking on any of the "update" apps just downloaded the new version. So now all my apps are updated correctly. I hope this helps!
