It is a new computer. CS3 is on my old laptop.

Deactivate CS3 on your old computer. Install and activate CS3 on your new computer. After you have done that, you can upgrade to CS5.

From the forum thread posted earlier: If CS3 is detected by the installer as being already installed in the machine, it will read the old serial number transparently and will prompt you only for the serial number for CS5.

I was hoping to keep using CS3 on my old laptop which has little space left on it. Where would I find a downloadable version of CS3. I've moved and can't find my discs.

Deborah Tackrey if you have your Creative Suite 3 serial number you can enter it during the installation process for Creative Suite 5.  After you enter your Creative Suite 5 serial number, assuming it is an upgrade serial number, it will then request your qualifying serial number.  At that time you will want to enter your Creative Suite 3 serial number.
