Can't uninstall/re-install Dreamweaver in CS 5.5

Dreamweaver has been working fine until today. Now, I get a "Please uninstall and reinstall the product" and an "Error: 1" message. If I attempt an uninstall, I get a "Your uninstallation encountered errors" message. I dl'ed the Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool" and followed the instructions, which claim there'll be an option to select the product I want to clean. However, the only option is "1. Clean All"

I haven't tried to uninstall the whole works, but based on the above I have my doubts that would succeed.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Thanks, John Woram

Been there, done that. If I attempt to (re-)install Dreamweaver from the CS 5.5 CD, I get the following:

Your installation encountered errors.

Exit code 7

1 fatal error, 61 errors, 29 warnings (most of which are incromprehensible)

I suspect that if I could get the CS Cleaner Tool to actually work, it would clean up whatever it is on the hard drive that prevents a re-install. But although its readme file claims an XML file will be created with a list of all the CS apps, it doesn't: it only lists Adobe Flash.

YOu said it was used to work fine before so has there been any change on your system which might have caused this issue, any software or file you downloaded.

Also check in teh new user account do you face the same problems.

The only change I made was that I attempted to update my CS 5.5 apps. The update failed, and that's when the problem started. I tried restoring my system (Windows 7) to yesterday's restore point and that didn't do a thing.

the only thing I can think of is to uninstall the complete suite from teh control panel , then run the cleaner tool and then re-install.

However have you checked in the new user account,

I thought about doing that, but figured if the complete uninstall also failed then I'd be in even bigger trouble. For now, at least all the other CS 5.5 apps are ok, so maybe I'll just chill out until Monday and then see if I can get anywhere with Adobe Tech Support -- doubtful I guess, but I suppose it's worth a shot.

Problem Solved!! Well, not really solved, but fixed. I decided to try the complete CS 5.5 uninstall, even though I knew it wasn't going to work. But it did! So, why did my Dreamweaver uninstall fail when I tried it alone, but succeed when I killed the whole works? Who knows, but after the complete uninstall, I ran the cleaner tool, which was probably unnecessary because there was nothing to clean. Anyway, I followed that with a defrag (which took forever) and then re-installed everything with no problems noted. So once again, I'm back in business with Dreamweaver, and the rest of the suite.

Thanks for the suggestions -- I still don't know what caused the initial problem, but here's hoping it doesn't happen again.
