I have a new machine and cannot install CS5. I did deactivate it from my old machine, have tripple checked the serial number, but cannot get CS5 to show up as a selection for installation. The number is on the origianl packaging, and is accurate. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What actions are you taking that lead to you saying you cannot get it to show up as a selection for installation - a selection from what?

Thanks for your reply.
When I originally tried to reinstall I was directed to a trial CS5 site, which asked for my serial number. When I entered the number I received a pop up which stated my number was vaild, but that it did not apply to any of the products listed in a box below the serial number. The products were for CS3, 4 and Adobe Design Premium and Standard. None of them were for CS5. So of course the number would not apply to any of those listed.
Looking on line for any similar problems brought me to this forum.
I had no problems loading CS5 onto my old machine, everything worked perfectly, but that was 5+ years ago.

It sounds like your serial number corresponds not to a new version of CS5, but for an upgrade version. It wants you to put in the serial number of the original software.

I am using the original serial number. I have been quite careful about that part.

Maybe it is not clear to you. From what you described in your first response it appears that the version of CS5 that you have was purchased as an upgrade version, so you originally had some other version like CS3 or CS4 for example. When you install an upgrade version you need to prove that you quaslify to use it by proving you have the original version that you upgraded from (CS3, or CS4 for example). So after you enter the cS5 serial number you also choose the original version (CS3 or CS4 for example) and you enter the serial number for that original version as well.

Thank you for your patience. However, I am holding the original box and DVD, with original serial numbers for CS5 Design Premimun at this moment. This is not an upgrade, it is the full suite of software programs.

It sounds like it is an upgarde version, which will be exactly the same as a full suite, but just requires proof that you qualify to use it as an upgrade. If you show a screenshot of the interface that you are having the problem with it could help alot in case we are interpretting what you are saying incorrectly.
If you installed it 5 years ago when you had some older version installed already then it would not be asking you to prove anything for the older version becaquse it would be able to see it on your machine.

Clearly you are convinced that you have a full version of CS5.
Everything you've told us in this discussion thread indicates that the CS5 installer considers your CS5 serial number to be an upgrade.
It now wants you to enter an earlier version serial number (CS3 or CS4) to verify that you are eligible to use your upgrade serial number.

Thank you all for your responses.
I have come to believe that I actually have an update, even though it was not supposed to be at the time, and until I tried to reinstall it, behaved as an original version.
As I have worked with this problem, I have also looked at the new financial model that Adobe has adopted, and have decided that I will pursue different software. I have used Photoshop for a long time, but there are others with comparable features, much, much less expensive and a user friendly support system. So...
