I have downloaded both files to re-install CS3 on my mac. None of the .DMG doanloads have an installer
that works. The "Setup" file either reports "insufficient resources" or "contact Adobe." Attempts to read the
documentation simply results in a google screen.

make sure you're installing correctly, http://www.ofzenandcomputing.com/how-to-install-dmg-files-mac/
then check other users experience with your os and cs3, http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
finally, check that your downloads are complete. ie, what files and sizes did you download?

The downloads are
ADBESTPPCS3_WWE.dmg at 2.3 Gb and is complete
STPPCS3_Cont_WWE.dmg at 253.4 Mb and is complete
Clicking the "Set up" .dmg file reports the two errors listed above.
I have already done the other items recommended in your post.
Thank you,
Sandy

Download and installation help for Adobe links
Download and installation help for Prodesigntools links are listed on most linked pages. They are critical; especially steps 1, 2 and 3. If you click a link that does not have those steps listed, open a second window using the Lightroom 3 link to see those 'Important Instructions'.

Been there, done that. The issue seems to be that there is some kind of Akamai installer that never
appears. Clicking on any of the links above does, indeed, download the files. They are always in
the right /downloads folder, and always the same size.
However, clicking on any .dmg file downloaded never gets me an installer. Just (in some best
cases) a message about "validating files." None of the documentation (even the ones that list
the problem "Akamai installer doesn't appear" say what to do to get the Akamai window... It has
now been over 5 hours I have been trying.
Thank you,
Sandty

again, make sure you're using the dmg files correctly. from your 2nd paragraph it appears you're opening the dmg files and then trying to install by clicking on setup (which is incorrect). http://www.ofzenandcomputing.com/how-to-install-dmg-files-mac/
also, akamai is a download manager sometimes used by adobe, but it is not an installer and you should not be using it for these downloads.
if you need a non-adobe download site and if you follow all 7 steps, you can download a trial via one of the links on this page using a browser that accepts cookies: Download Adobe CS4 and CS3 Free Trials Here (incl. After Effects) | ProDesignTools
and activate with your serial number.
if you have a download problem (eg, you see an error page or you are offered an incorrect version), you probably didn't follow all 7 steps. typically, failure to meticulously follow steps 1,2 and/or 3 is the problem, but your browser must also allow cookies so that (a restrictive browser setting) is another potential source of problems.

Thanks, but none of your answer is really relevant. I have numerous (dozens) of .dmg files that load successfully.
CS3 was running successfully on this Air before MacKeeper trashed a bunch of applications, including CS3 (Standard).
I have retrieved my serial number successfully.
Here are the .dmg files in my downloads folder:
Clicking on the first (ADB...) gets this window (At NO POINT is there a black AKAMAI window as in the instructions)
Clicking on the "Adobe CS3 Design Standard" icon above gets the window below. Clicking on the Adobe
icon immediately below the hard drive (Oook Xii) gets the same result:
Clicking on the "Setup" icon gets me:
Clicking on the "Bootstrapper.dmg" icon gets me:
There is a dmg on the desktop; it has the file name of the 7127... in the window above.
Loop.
I have changed browers (to Chrome). There are no firewalls, etc. and cookies are enabled.
Again, I don't seem to get the black Akamai window at any point.
Thank you,
Sandy

Kglad thanks for the valuable suggestions on how to download the Creative Suite 3 installation files. Future viewers of this discussion I would recommend reviewing message #3 in particular if you need to download the installation files.
Sandy the Akamai window you are referring to only happens when you are downloading a purchased, older, software title directly from http://www.adobe.com/. While it is possible your download is corrupted I think the more likely cause is the use of the MacKeeper application.
I would recommend ensuring that you have completely removed your previous installations of Creative Suite 3. You can accomplish this by first running any available uninstaller located in the Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers folder. Once you have run the available uninstallers then please run the CC Cleaner Tool to help ensure complete removal. You can find directions and the download at Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html.

Hi Jeff, and thanks, but no joy.
I downloaded and ran the CC uninstaller. I will point out that nowhere in the documentation does it
indicate to run the Creative Cloud uninstaller, and it is not intuitive that it would apply to CS3, which
is cloudless...
At any rate, I ensured that MacKeeper was NOT running.
I redownloaded both files. Again, the Akamai window did NOT appear. I am certainly downloading
older, purchased software directly from the Adobe.com website. No Akamai window.
Here is what I get. Again, ADB file is 2.15Gb and STP file 253.4Mb.

Viehalterin I am sorry if I was not clear. The Akamai download manager is only available when you are downloading a purchased order under your account.
At this time I would recommend you utilize a USB drive and download the installation files on a different computer. You can then mount the DMG file from the USB drive and install the software.

OK, please see below. I have the two .dmg downloaded files on "Midnight". This is what happens
when I try and install the program. Suggestions?

I also tried copying the images to the hard disk and running from there. efore doing so, I ran ACC Tool,
and made sure I had quit all open applications. No joy.

Viehalterin maybe we should step back for a moment. Why are you needing to reinstall CS3? Did you recently reinstall your operating system? After doing so did you transfer/migrate/copy/recover any files or applications to this current hard drive/OS installation?

No, I misunderstood the instructions on MacKeeper. Instead of doing what I thought it did (cleaning
up OLD, orphan files), it wiped out most of my applications. CS3 is the ONLY problem I have had,
and it's getting a little old.
Sorry you can't see the screen shot. It's the usual (CMD-SFT-4) screenshot.
The first shows using the two DMG files from an external jump drive.
The second shows using the two files copied from the jump drive onto my hard drive.
In BOTH cases, the error is "Required Resources are missing" from the installer pane.

Viehalterin you may want to consider a clean install of your OS then. I have also seen these errors come up from damaged OS installations. I believe you do have a good copy of the installation files at this point on the USB drive.
If you do decide to perform a clean install then I would recommend only restoring your documents and settings. You can then reinstall CS3 from the installation files on your USB drive.
