CS4 - Setup Error

Guest
May 16, 2016 May 16, 2016

I have been trying to download CS4 on my laptop and keep getting:

"Setup Error - Setup has encountered an error and cannot continue. Contact Adobe Customer Support for assistance."

I am only finding that forums are available for assistance, but unable to find something that helps. Wondering if anyone has any guidance.

Processor: 2.6GHz

RAM: 4.00 GB

System type: 64-bit

Thank you!

if you have a legal copy of cs4 you won't be able to use beyond 30 days because cs4 is no longer able to be activated.

Downloading is what you do to get a file from an Internet site to your computer... Installing is what you do to have install files put a program on your computer and link it to your operating system... what are you doing... downloading, or installing?

Exactly which operating system?

If Windows

Run as Administrator http://forums.adobe.com/thread/969395 to assign FULL permissions may help... says Encore, but sometimes required for ALL Adobe programs (this is NOT the same as using an Administrator account)

-also RIGHT click the EXE and select a compatibility mode in the pop up option window

Hi Kimh92165871,

Kindly try downloading and installing CS 4 products from the below link and see if that resolves the issue: Download Adobe Creative Suite 4 products

Follow the below steps if it still fails:

Solution 1:

1- Use the cleaner tool to remove everything related to CS 4 from your machine: Use the Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems

2- Delete the "Caps" folder in the location :

WIN 64 Bit: Program Files x86\Common Files\Adobe\caps\caps.db

WIN 32 Bit: Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\caps\caps.db

3- After this install the downloaded file.

Solution 2:

1- Create new admin account.

2- Install from that account.

3- Once installed, you are free to delete account and all files from new account.

If it still gives you an error, i would recommend you to analyse the install Log file to know the root cause of the error, See:

Troubleshoot install issues with log files in Adobe Creative Suite (CS6, CS5.5, CS5), PS Elements, a...

How to review Installation Log files?

Let us know if this helps resolve the issue, awaiting your response.
