Deactivate Photoshop CS6 without taking the rest of Adobe products with it!

I have Photoshop CS6 and Photoshop CC2015 installed on my desktop (Win 7 64bit).

I want to deactivate CS6 so it will run on my laptop. However when I try to deactivate CS6, Adobe seems to be telling me that EVERYTHING will be deactivated.

How do I just deactivate Photoshop CS6 and not all programs? If I just try to uninstall CS6, it appears that Bridge CC will also go. I don't understand why it doesn't select the Bridge CS6 that it came with - instead it wants to take out Bridge CC instead.

Why is it so complicated? All I want is to run my older Photoshop (CS6) on a laptop for when I'm out and about? Also the only computer with an active copy is my desktop.

Can anybody help

You are allowed two activations, so there shouldn't be any need to deactivate on the desktop.

But it does work the way you described - signing out deactivates everything that is part of the CC subscription.

If you have happen to have a pereptual license for CS6, you should be able to deactivate just that, but there is no need to do that - pereptual licenses also allow two activations.

Now that is the strange thing, I only have two copies installed, one on my desktop and one on my laptop (as yet not activated). My wife also uses Photoshop CC 2015 and does not have CS6 on her desktop. Yet, when I tried to activate the laptop copy, I'm told that I need to deactivate one copy before I can proceed (???), hence the reason for wanting to deactivate the desktop copy. I had similar difficulties a few years back with CS4 when I bought a new computer. As I stated, why does it have to be so difficult?

It seems that you have three copies installed - on your desktop and laptop and your wife's desktop.

Although you can install on as many computers as you like, only two can be activated at any one time.

It makes no difference if only CC 2015 is installed on your wife's computer - AFAIK, with CC it's the whole subscription that becomes deactivated.

Nope! Was never installed on her desktop as it is a rebuild of my old computer with new HDD after a power pack failure earlier in the year. prior to that CS6 was on the machine - but never on the C:\ drive which was a new replacement. Is it possible that in the system there are two activations b=which need updating with new information? I have no desire to delete CS6 from the desktop, just leave it there in case!

Should I therefore contact Adobe and see if they can resolve the missing activation?

Not sure if I understand you correctly, but you said that CC 2015 is installed on your wife's computer.

If it was installed under the same CC subscription that you used to install CS6 on your own two two computers, then that's three installs, and only two can be activated at the same time. The fact that your wife didn't install CS6 is irrelevant, it's the CC subscription as a whole that has to be deactivated - you can't deactivate individual applications.

At least that's the way I understand it.

I think I'm beginning to get the picture, only 2 installs of ANY Adobe product irrespective of the version number, is that correct? So, no matter that I have copies of CS3, CS4, CS6, CC 2014 & CC2015, I can only install Photoshop irrespective of the version, on two computers?

No, thats not correct. CS3, CS4 and CS5 are not available with Creative Cloud. CS6 has been available as standalone (perpetual license) and is also avilable with a CC subscription.

But I get the impression that the three installs in question here are Creative Cloud based, in which case one of them will always have to be deactivated.

The same principle applies to CS3 and CS4, but since they are standalone applications, they are licenced differently, and work independently of the CC subscription.

If you have a licence for CS3 or CS4 (or a perpetual license for CS6), you can install these on the third computer without any need to deactive the CC subscription on the two other computers.

My CS6 was purchased as a standalone long before the concept of the "cloud" subscriptions.

How do I remove it from CC so that it is no longer part of the Creative Cloud subscription?

I've tried unistalling Creative cloud from the laptop but it wont let me saying that there are dependant applications.

Having said that, all three computers are now running Photoshop - 2 with CC2015 and 1 with CS6.

I think I'm losing the will to live!

If your standalone CS6 has become part of CC, you must have installed it using the CC desktop app.

If you want to use the standalone instead, use the CC desktop app to uninstall CS6, then install the standalone version and enter your serial number.

You can download CS6 from here if needed: Download Creative Suite 6 applications

Thanks Per,

I suspect I did that without realising the consequences. I will remove CS6 and Creative Cloud from the laptop and start again. I have the discs (somewhere) so re-installing again will not be a problem.

Thanks for all your help.

Regards

Ken
