I downloaded Photoshop Elements 9 two years ago. Recently when I try
to open it I get a message saying that several elements are missing &
I must re-install.
This is what I am having a problem with. Can you advise me?

Have you tried reinstalling? Do you receive an error message when you are reinstalling?

When I followed instructions & downloaded I get the message
"verification failed Safari couldn't open because it is still being
downloaded" but I can't find where it's being downloaded to.

If you are downloading via Safari the default is your Downloads folder located in your User folder.

Are you downloading from your Adobe account at Adobe.com? If you are in Safari you should be also able to launch the DMG file by going to Windows>Downloads. You should then see a list of files which you have downloaded. Where do your other downloads typically get saved too?

Yes. They usually get saved to Akamai download manager but there
seems to be something wrong with it.

1) "You said that you downloaded the photoshop elements 9 two years ago" , have you ever installed it in this 2 year time frame and has it ever worked for you.
2) What processos does your mac has , is it a G5 machine which you have upgrdaed to Mac 10.5.8 or does it have Intel processor.
3) Where is the setup file located on your system , which you have downloaded.

I installed it initially & it worked for a while. Then I started
getting the message that some elements were missing & I should re-
install.
My Mac is a G5 upgraded to 10.5.8
The setup file is on my desktop

If you see the system requirement for the photoshop elements 9 then it specifies that you need to have the intel processors.
And that is the reason you are facing so much issue .
have a look on :- http://www.photoshopsupport.com/photoshop-blog/10/elements-9/elements-9-system-requirements.html
The error "It wont open as it is not the supported architecture" is coming because you are running G5 processor.
I dont know how and why it has worked for you before that would remain a mystery I believe
But if now the only option I can think for you is to upgrade because G5 computer as very old and old the latest application are getting designed to work proficiently on the Intel processor.

Marfis31 did you have Photoshop Elements installed on another computer or are you sure you have a G5 processor? You can verify this by going to the Apple Menu>About this Mac.
As for the refund process we typically only offer refunds within 30 days of purchase. You can find additional details around the refund process at Return, change Adobe orders | North America - http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/return-change-orders-north-america.html.

Actually it's a G4.
I don't think it ever worked very well. I have Photoshop 4 & I was
having a problem with it so when I went to re-install, I thought why
not try elements9. I didn't realize it required a different processor.
Anyway, thanks for all the help.
