How many versions???

Is it just me or is this both confusing and ridiculous. I'm sure someone will explain and give reasons but how do I keep things simple. One app of each that's all I need .... but which one? Help.

Back in the early days of Creative Cloud,  app updates removed old versions by default.  And everybody cried "don't take away our old versions!"  So Adobe listened and changed the default settings to leave old versions alone when updating.   

As of the October update, installed versions appear in your CC Desktop app as well as the latest NEW versions.  You can adjust preferences however you like.  See link below.

When you're certain you don't need an old version anymore, manually uninstall it as you normally would through your operating system.
