I Cannot Update Illustrator.

I Downloaded Illustrator CS6 as a trial. I started my creative cloud subscription after the trial had already expired and now for some reason I cannot update Illustrator. I need the latest update so i can get the new "package" feaute but the update option in the Help menu is greyed out. I tried using the application manager and I could not find out how to update it. I also downloaded the lastest update from the adobe website and when I tried to install it, I would get an error message saying that it cannot be updated. Any ideas why it is not working?

Windows 7 and Higher	C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Adobe\AAMUpdater\1.0\
Windows XP	C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\AAMUpdater\1.0\

Navigate to the above location based on Operating system and move the file "AdobeUpdaterPrefs.dat" to the desktop and then open Illustrator and check.
