Hi,
I've been trying for the past couple days to install Illustrator CS6. I purchased it third party so it came with a redemption code that just gave me a download (not requiring a serial key).
The installation seems to go well until it gets to 42%. After that, the download speed gets abnormally faster. Then, at about 81%, it says, "Installation failed." This is the report I get:
Retrying the installation only puts it back to that 42% mark. And please don't give me a link to exit code 6 and 7. I've already scanned that page over and over. I've done nearly every suggestion on the page. I've uninstalled and reinstalled MSVC and restarted my desktop ad naseam, but nothing seems to be working. I need some real help, not a link to "help" page. I can't really change or rename any setup files since this is an intangible download.
I'm fairly new to Adobe's systems, so I don't know if installing Adobe Drive or AIR is actually relevant to CS6 if it will make things even worse. I recently installed Photoshop CS6 (no problem there whatsoever) and fear I'll corrupt it by tinkering around with Illustrator too much.
Thank you,

Alright then. Just to be sure, is this the correct structure for the entries? The vertical dash in front of the "::1" is just the cursor getting caught in the screenshot:
Since this is a sample, besides the IP address, what other components do I need change so that it gets read correctly? Also, will resetting the host file comprise the other Adobe programs I have such as Photoshop CS6?

There must not be any Adobe entries in Hosts file , as they block the access to Adobe servers.

I understand, but my question, is the sample file above (as I arranged it) the correct host reset file?
Also, will resetting the host file comprise the other Adobe programs I have such as Photoshop CS6? I fear that messing with blockage like that will cause Photoshop to become erred like Illustrator is.

No , it will not affect any Adobe apps , if you reset Hosts file .
Default entries [ Windows 8 / 8.1] :
# Copyright (c) 1993-2006 Microsoft Corp. # # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows. # # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name. # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one # space. # # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol. # # For example: # # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host # localhost name resolution is handle within DNS itself. # 127.0.0.1 localhost # ::1 localhost

Sorry, but I'm not understanding the instructions for creating the default hosts file. Would you be able to create the default host file on MS notepad and take a screenshot of it. I think that would clear up the confusion if you included a visual sample. Thanks.

Thank you for the link. In the future, if you would have shown me that page first or at least a screenshot of the reset hosts file, this would have gone much faster.
Anyway, I created the new hosts file and marked the original file with a .OLD extension:
Here's the new hosts file:
Just to make sure, I restarted the computer before booting illustrator up again. And what a surprise, it still gives me error 16 like nothing even phased it. Same message as always too.
Hypothetically, if Illustrator does work when run on the hidden administrator account, there appears to be so many bugs and garbage that have tagged along with it that I wouldn't be surprised if those things decided to cause mischief out of the blue later in the future.
Thank you very much for your help. You appear to comfortably know your way around a computer and that's more than I can say for most of the paid staff members here.
Unfortunately, I'm not sure what else to do. In your professional opinion, do you think all these horrendous problems (third party payload errors, installation never is fully complete whether using the redemption code or the serial number, normal encounters of the 32726 trial bug, spontaneously switching to trial mode, being unable to connect to the internet on a perfect 5-bar wireless internet only when validating a serial number, error 16 showing hours after completion) would be resolved if I were to get a different copy of Illustrator CS6? Is it possible that this copy has been corrupted somehow?
