installing LR4 error

After I downloaded LR 4, when starting install, error message "Could not open LR4 .pkg Operation could not be completed. (com.apple.installer.pagecontroller error -1.)" What does that mean and what do I do about it

I think I may have figured this out. I was running OS X 10.5.8 and I believe it requires 10.6.8. I'm fairly new to Mac, so I didn't realize you had to purchase new operating systems. And apparently they aren't downloadable so I ordered Snow Leopard and it will be shipped in a couple days. So I also realized I'm two systems out of date. I guess once I download Snow Leopard I will upgrade AGAIN to Lion. I'm assuming this will work. I do appreciate your replying and the help.

What is the operating system you are using?

Is it the purchased product or the trial download from adobe.com?

A screen shot of the erro will be a great help/....
