Hi,
I've tried several times this evening to download and install the new version of Lightroom, but each time I have received the following error message when AAM tries to install the new version:
Exit Code: 7
Please see specific errors below for troubleshooting. For example, ERROR: DW006 ...

I'm running Mac OSX 10.6.8, with all software patches up to date. The current version of the LR on my Mac is 4.4. I've tried rebooting the machine and trying the install with nothing else running, but it made no difference. I'm a creative cloud subscriber.
I'd be grateful for some help.
Thanks!
Ian
The Exit Code 7 errors seem to be mostly due to unsupported operating systems during install.
Here are the tech specs for Lightroom 5 which include Minimum operating system requirements (Mac 10.7 or later/Win 7 SP1 and later).
Although you were able to install LR5 beta on Vista, Vista was never listed as an officially supported OS on the labs page and the OS requirement wasn't hard enforced. With the official release, the officially

I'm having the exact same problem on the same OS and Lightroom 4 versions. You aren't alone:-) Nothing in the installer log files to help diagnosis.

Hi BIckers and Chuck,
Perform two below steps which might resolve this issue:
1. Verify the Disk Permissions. Follow the below document to do this:
http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/repair-disk-permissions-running-disk.html
2. If above steps doesn't work, then restart your Mac in Safe Boot. Follow the steps mentioned in the below document:

OK, did both of these. Still won't install, exactly as described by the other two on this page.
Any other ideas?
Adobe's installers have been traditionally buggy. CC installers have worked smoothly. That was refreshing. Looks like we're back to "update your Adobe software, lose half a day's work" again.

Exact same problem here also- with identical OS & Lightroom versions.

Exact problem here. Was willing to spend money to "join" Creative Cloud. First effort to update LR failed. Have Mac with 10.6.8, patched up to date, LR4.4. If the steps suggested by JairajMike are required why isn't that advice contained in instructions before the failure occurs?

I am having the same problem.

I am also having this problem. MBP, Mac OS 10.6.8, Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4.4 [891433] Retry failed twice. Same summary below, cancelled, trying a new download:

I was just informed by Adobe Support that OS X versions below 10.7 are NOT SUPPORTED by LR5! This is the true reason for failure to install errors in OS X 10.6.8!
This is a complete surprise and had not seen any references to this before from Adobe. However, a look at the Tech Specs does indeed confirm that supported versions are 10.7 or later.

Makes perfect sense that they would preclude the last professional version of OSX.

WHAT?!!! Well, yes apparently this is true. And I suppose it isn't all that weird or unexpected. But, for there to be a requirement like this means there would hopefully be something very beneficial, such as a performance boost. Seems there isn't the promise of that, so I'm not sure there is a compelling reason for me to upset a working apple cart just yet. There is along thread about this at the Beta release site, http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2013/04/lightroom-5-beta-now-available.html
I am one (obviously) who has chosen, not because of monetary cost, to stick with what works in my environment, with the tools I use. We have printing protocols, drivers, server access, permission issues etc to deal with and 10.6.8 is where we have found a happy place. At the same time, I knew this day would come, but until then, I'll stick with-- if it aint broke...

Well, it's quite broken for me. With LR 4.4, they broke the way PSD transparency is displayed. My neatly masked catalog stuff now looks terrible with landfill-grey where white used to be.
LR5 fixes this, they say. Alas, my Mac Pro won't run Mountain Lion. I can only upgrade to Lion -- which I abhor. Alas II, one cannot purchase Lion anyway.

That sucks. Sorry, I used shorthand— I was referring to running snow leopard in my environment isn't broke. There are things I'd like improved with probably every piece of software I have.

Of course, I was stupid to not check the specs of LR5, especially after two install fails.
Still, Adobe prides itself as a premium product. Surely Adobe Application Manager has the wherewithal to determine the OS before allowing an install attempt.

Pete,
Can you please give instructions as to how I can install Lightroom 4 then?
I am running 10.6.8 and having the same installation problems with Lightroom 5 (due to unsupported OS).
However, I know Lightroom 4 works with 10.6.8. But I see no options in CC for its installation.

Hey Merc,
We're working on getting the LR4 binaries available as part of CC, this should be happening soon (hopefully in a week or less)...
In the meantime, you can install the LR4 trial and install that until it is added to the CC options.

So, seems like my 2 years old Macbook Pro with Mac OS 10.6.8 is obsolete... Computers used to last way more.
Now the question is.. should I give up my macbook, or my CC suscription? we´ll see...

The $20 upgrade to mountain lion was well worth it. My mid 2010 MBP is actually running a bit more crisply and I seemed to pick up a little disk space due to ml's smaller footprint.

Thanks Chuckg.
Until today I had never thought about upgrading my MBP early 2011. Actually, I am still not sure if just the new features of LR5 are worth the time I would spend to fisrt research how to do it and then do it. Anyway, now that CC took me to this subject, it seems like sooner or later I´ll have to do it anyway.
I have no experience updating OS on MAC. Is it time consuming? probably I would have to back-up everything before, like when formating a PC, right?.
Also, would CC put some problems for re-installing the software afterwards, if in their system they would appear like ¨installed¨? I have no idea how CC works regarding that.
It would be nice if you have some comment about this.

Sorry for the brief reply
Back up is essential; time machine is great for that; I recommend a USB drive over a faster FireWire 800 though. I've had trouble with FireWire / time machine back ups, I don't know why but USB has never caused a problem
Upgrade from App Store. Download could take a while but upgrade install should be less than an hour.
No need to reinstall cc or any other apps just upgrade as necessary.

I know I'm late for joining this thread, but I'd suggest using Carbon Copy Cloner to backup before updating OS X, and definitely use Firewire. You can very simply create a bootable clone so if the update goes Pete Tong you can boot to the clone and restore the backup...your Mac is back to exactly where it was before you tried to update. I've done this many times with complete success.
You can't boot to the clone if you use a USB cable.
