I just purchased, from Amazon, Photoshop 7.0.1 for Mac (I'm new to the world of iMac ... I'm a former PC user) and, on installation attempt, was appalled to see an error message stating, You can't open the application "Install Adobe Photoshop" because PowerPC applications are no longer supported. Is there a workaround for this, or, what is the version of Photoshop (not cloud based) that is the oldest version I can install on this machine? It is a 2009 24" iMac, 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor. People tell me that the newer versions of Photoshop are internet/cloud based and require internet connection to use. I do not want anything like that at all; I don't always have connection and need a version I can install directly on this iMac ... just the way I always had Photoshop 6 on my old PCs.
Any and all help/guidance/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, sincerely ... Jim

Using which link? Photoshop 7 was released in 2002. It has not been sold for well over a decade.

Running which version of OS X?
The last version of OS X which could run PowerPC apps was 10.6.8.

That's not how the Adobe Cloud works.
Adobe Cloud software is downloaded, installed and run locally - just like it always has been.
The Cloud part is in the licensing only. You must have an occasional internet connection (every 30 to 99 days as a minimum) for an automatic and silent license check which takes seconds to complete.

Thank you, John. I ordered Photoshop 7 (version 7.0.1) through Amazon; the particular Amazon vendor I got it from is called Prof In PA from Lancaster PA. Apparently, there are still old versions of Photoshop out there being sold.
Thanks for the info on Photoshop CC and how the cloud works. Every time I've asked anyone about it, I was always told that you log into Photoshop via internet to do your work and projects online and that there was no local program installed on your machine. Glad to know the facts now. I guess I should probably hop online and research it from the products page as opposed to merely asking someone about it.
I just got off the phone with an Apple tech (they're wonderful people to deal with and bend over backwards to help). New lesson learned ... before buying any software for the Mac these days, research the system requirements. According to the Apple tech I spoke to, if operating system OS X 10.11 is not listed, it's more than likely NOT going to work or install on my iMac even though it might say "for Mac" on the ad. He said there's been some major changes with the new El Capitan and it doesn't have "Rosetta" built in (whatever that is) which, according to him, allowed PowerPC software to run on an Intel Mac. The Apple tech looked up Photoshop on Amazon while we were on the phone and was somewhat surprised to see how many old versions of several Adobe programs that are still for sale out there; and he was more surprised to see how many of the ads do not list system requirements in the details about the product; some did, some didn't. He also hinted in a round about way (without saying it directly) that ordering software from places like Amazon or eBay may not be the wisest choice. Better to just go with the latest and newest direct from the manufacturer.
The only reason I don't feel like a complete dope is that I seem to be one in a long line of people who've bought an older software "for Mac" and found it won't install on a Mac with Yosemite or El Capitan.
Again, thanks for your response ... and setting my mind at ease about the newer versions like Photoshop CC. I'll be looking into that instead of an older version. 🙂
