Hi All,
This is my first time using these forums so I'm sorry if I'm writing in the wrong place. I was looking for some general advice on how to determine if the serial number has been used for your product and if it is ok to sell it?
My situation is as follows. My brother in law gave me a copy of Photoshop CS4 that he was given from work. He said he has never used it but the box is opened and I'm not sure if he was just given someone else's copy to install on his computer. It's pretty fuzzy on the details actually. But the point of my question is to ask if it's ok to sell it with serial number to someone else. I don't want to sell it if it's registered to someone else without my knowing it , of course and how do I check to see if anyone else is the listed owner of this serial number?
I registered the serial number with this new adobe name I created and it said thank you and it's now listed as a product under my account but does that mean I am the sole owner of it? Any help in this area would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks for your time
Mike

If Adobe allowed you to register and activate then you can be pretty sure you are now regarded as the sole owner. People here all the time discover they cannot register as the serial is already in use. As for selling the software that is not as easy as it sounds. There is a transfer of ownership form that you need to complete and so does the purchaser. Adobe will then transfer the right of ownership to him or her. I have never carried out the procedure myself, but I have read it takes about a month to process and also there may be a requirement to produce proof of actual ownership on your part. The staff here are far better placed to tell you about that than me though.

Have you ever used the CS4 serial number to get an upgrade to any newer version of Photoshop?
If so, Adobe won't allow you to sell CS4. Many people have used their CS4 to upgrade to CS5 and assumed that since they now had CS5 and they don't have any use for CS4 that they could just sell the CS4 version. But the CS5 upgrade is tied to the license of CS4 and Adobe says no to any transfer.
Now there has been newer versions: CS5, CS5,5, CS6, CC, CC2014 & CC2015, but I'll bet they haven't changed their policy.
But, it doesn't hurt to ask.
You would need to contact Adobe directly, these forums are mainly just users like yourself.
Even the occasional STAFF member would probably be unable to help you. They certainly would not have the personal authority to do anything about this issue.
