serial number not valid on new computer.

I'm trying to install After effects on my new computer, my old XP computer crashed. When I put in the serial number on my new laptop Im told it is not valid, Where do I go from here?

The article listed above does not help me with my problem. When I enter the serial number I still get the yellow triangle with the ! inside saying the serial number is not for this software.

Is it possible that  CS4 and CS5 installs have different serial numbers? when  I  bought the software it came with both versions.
