Unable to see scanner using PhotoShop CS for Import

Epson Perfection 48970 Scanner worked perfectly with iMac using MAC OS 10.6.8 and Photoshop CS. But that iMac was traded in for a new iMac, and now using MAC OS 10.8.5. PS CS is now inoperative for the upgraded operating system. Now working with Macbook Pro, MAC OS 10.6.8, and scanner works perfectly with the laptop, but NOT with Photoshop CS. The Epson doesn't show in the import mode, but the HP Officejet Pro 8500 does, which is a poor scanner at best. I have looked for the answer to this problem, but unable to solve the problem. I don't want to buy an upgrade version of Photoshop CS; I just want to covert some 35mm slides to paper photos, etc.

Thank you Rave for your reply to my communication dilemma between Photoshop and my Epson printer. In my original statement, my emphasis was on declaring that my older MAC, the Macbook Pro, would continue to operate with MAC OS 10.6.8, therefore Photoshop CS should “see” my Epson Perfection 4870 just like it did on my older iMAC, which also operated under MAC OS 10.6.8.

I finally withdrew from trying to upgrade whatever is required to have Photoshop CS recognize my Epson. Instead, I concentrated today on updating the Macbook Pro with software from Epson to successfully begin scanning my slides at 1200 and 2400 dpi, and saving the scanned images in tiff files. I will do image enhancement by using Adobe Photoshop CS, which is operational on my Macbook Pro, MAC OS 10.6.8. My biggest problem was that I was defiant in getting Photoshop to see my Epson…

I know there is a way to make Photoshop happy to shake hands with the Epson, but time is a factor for me…
