Upgrade issues from Lightroom 3 to 6, my serial number isn't matching up

I have lightroom 3. I just upgraded to lightroom 6. I punched in my 24 serial number and it says it's invalid. I have my lightroom 3 disc as well as my lightroom 2 disc with serial number. What is the best way to proceed? Also when I purchased the upgrade it asks what lightroom I have. I said lightroom 3, will that be an issue?

Is the installer telling you your Lighroom 6 serial number is invalid or is it returning an error after asking for the serial number of your previous version (qualifying previous product)?

Which version of Lightroom you had shouldn't be an issue, since both LR2 and LR3 can be upgraded, but it will help us troubleshoot to know the exact error message you're receiving. If possible, post a screenshot (How to post a screenshot in the forum).
