could someone shed some light as to how i get this serial number back? i do not want to have to buy photoshop again! it costs enough as it is!

Your user account is your friend. Check your "My Products" section. All downloaded software is automatically registered there along with your serials(s).

You would think but it isnt there, there is no record of me buying this software which is annoying as i thought there would be an automatic history made of all products bought. i have contacted adobe and opened a case. does anyone else have any ideas??

You will find your serial number in your account only if you have registered your copy with Adobe. If you haven't done that, the only way is to call customer support and see if they can help. (http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/)

Open the link that I sent you. When a customer support person is available for chat, a pop up window appears using which you can chat with the customer support person.

Try this link to get to a chat agent. You should see a chat button, but if it shows busy, just wait and it will refresh once an agent frees up.
