Why does CC require updating before allowing uninstall?

Several of our designer just got new Macs, and are following the recommended practice of uninstalling CC before migration, and doing a fresh install on the new computer. Uninstalling for an application that is not entirely up-to-date seems not to be possible - the programs are insisting on updating the programs before they can be removed.

Is there a way to circumvent this? It seems like a giant waste of time to have to wait for an update before removing the program.

It is only necessary to sign-out on the old machine. CC desktop can then be loaded and signed-in on the new machine. Then simply go to the Apps tab to install each application.

Sign-out on the old machine makes all installed apps unusable for the Adobe ID, but it can be done from the “Help” menu of any single app.

I realize that sign-out on the old machine is all that is required to sign-in on a new one.

But when using the Mac Migration Assistant to move to the new machine, it is well known that Adobe CC products don't work well with migration. It doesn't let you pick and chose which programs to migrate, so it is recommended to uninstall Creative Suite programs from the old machine before running the Migration Assistant.

The question remains - why does uninstalling require updating first?

The only method I know of is to use the Adobe Installers to remove individual apps. Once there are no CC apps remaining it should be possible to also uninstall CC desktop.

Thanks -- finding the uninstallers is not the issue. The question is, when running the uninstaller, why is it requiring the program to be updated before it will allow it to be uninstalled?

Are the individual apps still installed? If so use CC desktop to uninstall them. I don't know the reason why it needs updating first, but it usually takes one click and is fairly quick.

Hi SJRiegel,

If it's the desktop app that is asking for an update and you don't wish to update it, then please go ahead and uninstall the desktop app first by using the following uninstaller : Uninstall the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop application.

After this follow the instructions given by 99jon to uninstall remaining apps:

From Finder

Applications >> Utilities >> Adobe Installers

NOTE: Desktop app updates are forced and compulsory updates.

Let us know if this helps.

Thanks

We have one more user to migrate - if the issue occurs again, I'll try this method.

It still seems to me that un-installing should not require updating first, so this work-around shouldn't be necessary.

SJRiegel when utilizing the Migration Assistant in the future please choose to only migrate over documents and settings.  You can then reinstall any needed applications on the new computer.

This will lead to much smoother results and also helps ensures that you are installing the applications designed to work on the operating system of the new computer.
