Font.ini file changes really work???

I have been modifying the font.ini files as indicated in the manual in order to overide default properties. Modified ex. adobe green to a diff colour saved it, restarted cap 3 and add text caption using adobe green and the text stays the same colour (green)?

Hi again

Note that if you opened an existing Captivate file, you won't see any change. The simple process flow is:

1. Close Captivate
2. Alter INI file
3. Delete DAT file
4. Restart Captivate
5. Create new project from scratch

The thing is, as you use each caption type in a project, they get cached inside the project .CP file. So at that point, it won't be looking at the INI file, because that type has already been used in the project.

ok found .dat file. Deleted it and it was recreated once cap 3 started. I then went into the font.ini file and redefined adobe blue hex color to a red hex colour. opened cap 3 and nothing changed. so added a new text caption kept old blue colour. so kept font.ini unchanged with same adobe blue to a red hex colour then deleted the .dat file and restarted cap 3 thinking it would go get the new def in the font.ini but even though in the font.ini it is changed, it remains the old adobe blue when you add a new text caption.

. I understand about the fact that your dir may be different but I did generic search instead (*v30.dat) could not find that file.

Hi again

Unfortunately, Windows likes to hide this location. Often, we have to open Windows Explorer and click Tools > Folder Options > View tab and make some changes there. I think you may need to do this and make the following changes.

* Show hidden files and folders
* DE-select "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)

And I always DE-select "Hide extensions for known file types".

Once you make these changes, you should be able to find the file.

Damn why is that now in the manual as such. Thank you. How did you find this out so that I may empower my next research and again thank you my friend.

Hi again

I found it out by simple experimentation. I love to poke Captivate in assorted places just to see what it will do. I was aware that one can reset the Captivate settings file, so just tried that on a hunch.

I tend to think in ways that are different than the norm. Not sure why. I'm warped I suppose.

Hi Benoit Noel de Tilly

In order for this to take effect and work, you will also need to perform the following steps.

1. Close Captivate

2. Locate your Captivate Settings file. This file is named captivate_v30.dat and is found in the following location for me.

D:\Documents and Settings\Rick\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe Captivate

For you it will likely be different. Yours will probably begin with C, and where my path above lists Rick, you may see your name or something else there. The key is that the path is different for almost each PC.

3. Delete the file. Don't worry, Captivate will build a new one when you restart it. If you aren't comfortable deleting the file, just rename it to captivate_v30.bak or something.

4. Restart Captivate, create a new project and insert your modified caption type. This should work. It did for me.

Cheers... Rick
