dreamweaver 2017 crashes everytime

Community Beginner ,
Nov 10, 2016 Nov 10, 2016

What's happening? Creative Cloud informs me of Upgrades - I upgrade. AND NOW I CANNOT WORK. I pay for this software. And it cost me more in lost productivity.

Then I read about other people's issues. And the solution is to look in your event log and try to find the answer there. Are you serious?

Should.t something come up before you press "upgrade" that would inform users that there may be problems!!!!!!

Irresponsible Process. Only after I upgrade and have constant crashes do I find out there are known issues. Truly unbelievable.

HP has software that finds and fixes your problems.

Intuit has software that identifies issues and solves them.

Intel XDK, Android Studio, Virtual Studio and on and on do not release software that crashes as many times as adobe.

I am sorry but seriously. Every major release has dreamweaver issues....

So I am reading more and one suggestion is to open old version (CS6 for me) Just guess what happened? CRASH!

SO Support guys what do I do as the questions keep rolling in every few minutes.?

Ryan, we are really sorry that Dreamweaver CC 2017 has been crashing for you. We would look at WER reports to see if we can find these reports to analyze the issue meanwhile if you could please share a couple of crash dumps to help us analyze the issue faster it would be helpful. You could mail these crash dump files directly to dw-wishlist@adobe.com and we would try analyzing the problem.

The program Dreamweaver.exe version 17.0.0.9314 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Security and Maintenance control panel.

Nothing from this link works for this.

Do-it-yourself troubleshooting kit for Adobe Dreamweaver

Why is there not a simple process to supply the info required to help you help me. Am I now an Adobe Support Tech? Searched for how to find a crash dump Dreamweaver in Google - there is nowhere that explains how to find a crash dump! Seriously? The one thing I have read over and over that you need and there is no clear link to how to find a crash dump. Step #1 = tell people how to find a crash dump.

Band-aid after band-aid after band-aid to support issues is not a good way of providing support.

And before you start the usual problem-solving sequence related by KiethAus here Re: Dreamweaver CC Crashes Constantly

realize that my computer can handle it. It's not my computer. It's your software.

Oh, wait I finally found something about crash logs - Ok Hold on - I need to go into my registry and create some entries. Seriously - can't this be automated.

Oh Now this is useless since it is a hang and not a crash - I REALLY WANT TO SWEAR LOUDLY THROUGH THIS SCREEN

PLEASE SEND ME A LINK TO DREAMWEAVER CC 2015 so I can re-install it and get back to work ASAP.

Can I get a link to 2015CC download?

Hopefully these steps should work to rollback to DW CC 2015 - I just tried it myself before posting as I am not from the Tech Support but an engineer on the product team and wanted to be sure before recommending. The "View Previous Versions" is the last menu entry was harder to make out since it is in a totally different color( blue) than the other items in the same menu which are black.

Also please note that you could keep the DW CC 2015 version on the system and still have DW CC 2017  also installed. When you click Update, there is an advanced settings section, clicking on which reveals a check box "Remove old versions". Unchecking this check box should retain the installed version as well as install the latest version. I understand CC 2017 is currently hanging on launch for you. I will try to think of how we can get the required information to help out in this scenario.

Hi Diggy,

We had fixed similar issue with DW 17.5.

Could you please confirm if you are still seeing this crash with latest DW version?

Thanks,

The "How to Set up WER for a Crash Dump" section in the article https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/chaun/2013/11/12/steps-to-catch-a-simple-crash-dump-of-a-crashing-p...  should help setup for capturing crash dumps. If you would need further help in capturing these dumps please let me know and I can mail across this as a .reg file that you can open directly to be setup.

Then I hope you're sorry for me too. I use Adobe software since ages including Dreamweaver. And DW2017 is the worst experience: expensive and bad. It crashes all the time and today it seems it has crashed forever. I did evertything to fix it.

Including deleting the AppData Roaming and reinstalling DW. At former issues this helped. But now it doesn't anymore. Not even with deleting all the preferences, so a real blank install.

I need this version of DW now, since I use the SASS functions. So rolling back is not an option.

I'm running the latest Windows OS.

You have to understand that people like me are self employed workers with low wages, working their ... off and get stuck by problems like this. Adobe has a responsibility. But I see many many complaints.

As I wrote mkumarbn:

I have an addition to my issue. I found the cause by "manual" logging.  I found out that Dreamweaver.exe waits for CEPHtmlEngine.exe. If I rename (in path C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CC 2017\configuration\) folder CEP to _CEP, Dreamweaver starts. After that, I can name _CEP back to CEP. I will write this to the engineers too. And do I get a refund for a few months now? Because it's damaging my business + I solved it (a little bit).

It's something old perhaps, something similar was happening in DW2015. If someone else suffers from this error, this CEP stuff might be a bypass untill the issue is fixed. At least, in my case, DW is launched (and my fingers are crossed - now typing is a problem).

This sounds like something I wrote?  Crash, crash, crash.  Dreamweaver 2017 is a joke.  I too tried an older version, but it crashed too.  My website deadline is staring me in the face but nothing I can do.  I've used it for years, but i guess not any more.

Are you on Windows?

What does your Windows Event Viewer say is the faulting module?  See link below for details.

Photoshop crashes with Lavasoft Chrome extension installed

Lavasoft on Windows OS is a known conflict with many Adobe products including DW, PS & AE.  Removing Lavasoft and its related DLL files fixes the problem.

If you don't have Lavasoft, it could be graphics card related.  Updating your graphics drivers from the card manufacturer's website usually fixes that problem.

Dreamweaver is pretty disfunctional now. I havn't commented on it since November/December but just tuned in to see if there were 'fixes' or sgould I say "'"fixes"'" (note how I have automatically added additioanl quote marks automatically for no reason. For example, I have pasted some example code below:

Oh, thats right, paste doesnt work half the time. But at least I can close tags automatically before I have written any code, regardless of whether I alreadu have the brackets in place or want them.

The list of blatent illogic goes on forever. Only a moron would realise a product with that degree of disfunctionality. Its like they simply WANT TO WASTE PROGRAMMERS TIME. Like we are the scum of the earth and our job should be much harder. Maybe we need to be keyed down so we can only earn the wages of a sandwich maker because our tools are so bad, thus making everyone on the planet equal.

Just so its clear. Creating tags is PAINFUL. Every tag I create needs individual correction. I'm just saying as thats what im doing right now and thought I would check out whether Dreamweaver had made any progress. NOPE.

I'm sorry, this discussion is about resolving a crashing issue. If that is the problem that you are having, it does not show in your narrative. Please elaborate.

If the problem is not the same as the OP described, please start a new discussion with the particulars of the problem, that way we may be able to help you.

Please keep in mind that

(a) I use the latest Windows version all the time without problems

(b) labelling people is not useful

(c) specifics are better than generalisations

(d) bugs can be submitted by going to Help > Submit Bug/Feature Request

I am also using an iMac and all local files. I have not been able to open DreamWeaver in months, and am really frustrated. I have spent hours following all the suggestions to fix or repair. I was not able to open DW CC 2015 and now can't open DW CC 2017. I have been updating my websites only using code and text edit, I want my DreamWeaver back!

If you can't open either version, I suspect a problem with your computer's configuration.  The first thing that jumps to mind is a duplicate folder name on the same named volume.
