Dreamweaver & Domain names

Hello

It's been a LONG time since I've used Dreamweaver. 

I had a few questions.

1- Does Adobe provide hosting included in the CC subscription and offer domain names?

2- Can a domain be purchased through GoDaddy and then connected to the DW website? (In that case who would be doing the hosting?)

3- I am not a coder. Adobe stopped supporting Muse past Windows 10. So, is Dreamweaver more user friendly since 2011? I'm not looking for a complicated website. So I just want to focus on the design, and add a music player to visitors to stream my music. Would that require coding/scripting or is there built in widgets I can customize?

No

Yes, GoDaddy. As a side note, there is no such thing as a DW website; it is a website created using DW.

Dreamweaver is the same now (with a few mods) as it was in 2011. You may need to do coding and scripting, depending on how far you want to go. You can always ask for assistance from this community when you reach that stage.

To further on #3, what are you looking to build? Just a simple website? Ecommerce? Also - when you are not a coder, are you looking for something that is all drag-and-drop, do you feel comfortable uploading files via ftp?  The more details you can provide here, the better you might get with a response for suggestions for a host that could fit your needs.

With that said, based on your initial responses I would not recommend DW if you do not feel comfortable coding. You might be better getting a site built for you to be drag and drop, or finding a host that supports this type of editor that meets your requirements.

Hi Ben

Thanks for the input here. 

I'm looking for just a simple webpage (not even a full website). I want it for my music. But it'll be this simple- an about section, a music section, and then eventually uploading videos, photos, and when I'm doing shows. The most "complex" thing would be adding a music player and uploading cover art and the songs. 

I initially made my site with Wix. I'm really happy with it. I liked the drag and drop, but it's also very intuitive and customizable. That's what I'm looking to do in Dreamweaver. Muse was so great, and I'm highly disappointed it won't even run on Windows 11. 

The problem with Wix is it's ridiculous price. Almost $400 a year, regardless if you do month to month or do it for a year (for their $32/month plan). I'm considering their 16/month plan for the year. But I don't think I'd be able to use the social media buttons. Although I'm sure I can find a workaround for that.

I feel stuck, almost discouraged even because GoDaddy's website builder is trash. It's oversimplified and is very limited in its customization. They told me I'd have to spend $140 for the year which includes Word press to have that level of functionality. 

I can't believe I'm struggling this much to figure out how to create something so simple.

Any more insight on this would be helpful. I'm pretty versed in other Adobe softwares but websites have never been my fortay.

Well to put it in perpsective, Dreamweaver by itself is $20.99/mo with a 12 month commitment and you don't get hosting. So the value add of Wix is that for $12/mo more does it give you what you need? Even if you could find an inexpensive developer at $40/hour, 10 hours of work to get the website designed the way you want would not include hosting either.

If you are just worried about social media buttons I would think that even lower plans would offer that. They might not offer advanced integrations or analytics, but it should be enough and you won't need the extra storage of the higher plans if you are just hosting social content and not storing it natively on the server.

The only other option is buying a wordpress template and looking to get something like up. While there are drag and drop editors, it might not be exactly what you are used to. Personally, I would talk to Wix and figure out what plan is best based on your needs and stick with them.

Dreamweaver is coding software, nothing more.  If you can't work with code (and it sounds like you can't), use a music sharing site to post audio tracks where interested users are more likely to find & download them. That's the path of least resistance.

Building your own site and hosting it on GoDaddy doesn't build an instant audience.  That could take years and a sizable ad budget before it gains enough traction to get noticed.  You've got massive competition from well-established music sharing sites like Spotify, SoundCloud, Apple Music and others.  See screenshot.   You can't beat 'em,  so join 'em. 🙂
