It's true that you can't run firevault, but here's how to fix this (on a mac 10.6.3)

1) locate ~/library/application support/adobe/dreamweaver cs5

2) Get info

3) Under sharing & permissions, add your user name w/ r/w access

4) Enjoy CS5

Thanks, Jim. I have added that information to the Dreamweaver FAQ with an acknowledgement to you http://forums.adobe.com/thread/629224.

Honestly this problem is not just with Dreamweaver.  The Photoshop forums have had this same problem although 2 Adobe employees have (Jeff Tranberry & Chris Cox) have been working over there talking about an initial round of patches for Photoshop to fix that and the Camera Raw plugin (seems 6.0 code may have been locked before 5.7 so new cameras are missing).    And it is suspected that this bug will affect the operation of ALL Adobe CS5 Mac products because they all set permissions like this.  It might be worth noting this.

Photoshop thread - http://forums.adobe.com/thread/628368?tstart=0

And for those interested in the Camera Raw:

http://forums.adobe.com/thread/628543?tstart=0

And a blog post from today discussing the Camera Raw 6.1 update:

I too am having difficulty with dreamweaver hanging or freezing on startup, and can't seem to find a solution in this thread. I have a brand new imac. Not sure what the problem could be. Any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated! 😉

Worked for me.

CS5 is garbage. period. even worse than CS4 - I thought Adobe would wake up and get serious about making this a decent product for the mac, but they have failed as usual. Nothing in this new release works well, I've had over 15 crashes in under 12 hours, so-called new features don't work.....ugh, huge waste of my time and energy. Though CS4 is extremely shoddy, I'll have to stick with it for now.....

The upside is that I am highly motivated to master WordPress. Adobe doesn't have enough respect for it's customers to admit they have no interest in Dreamweaver - never really have....

There are no widespread reports yet suggesting the issues you're facing are common, esp not repeated crashes.

Is there any chance that your system needs a cleanout? I expect the answer's no and everything else works fine. Just thought I'd ask.

it only helped after FILE VAULT was disabled!

... but again, that is not optimal solution, because i want to sure FileVault...

does Adobe people read forums? Would be nice if they get this fixed soon,

other wise i will still stick to CS4.

Same thing (as Deon Kumara's) here. I don't have the slightest desire to switch the FileVault off.

Now I begin to understand the REAL reason why Apple don't want Adobe's products on their iPhones and iPads — it's sub-standard quality. Very sad.

Same problem here. Upgrade to CS5. Hoping they will do better job this time. But now I have to give up FlieVault to let Dreamweaver works on my Mac. So disappointed... When will they fix this problem??? I am going back to CS3!

Create a new administrative account on your OS X and try to launch DW CS5 from there. Chances are, it will work — worked for me.

Deon,

That is exactly what I get with CS 5 on Mac OS X 10.6.3  (8 GB, DQC 3 ghz), no filevault.  Licensed.

I will contact support for help too.  If I can find the right place.

I did try reinstalling too.

I ended up doing a bug report here, https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform

and am going to call also.

Both Photoshop and Illustrator were installed with the wrong permissions for the Preferences - fixed those by correcting them.  It was NOT the problem with Dreamweaver.  While Adobe may have tested a lot, they certainly didn't test enough.

Good stuff, the more people report it the sooner its solved.

I found the hang on start was partly solved by downloading the jquery file and saving locally. Probably better practice anyway.

However things like google analytics etc still have to link remotely.

The biggest hitch for me is the related files. When using live view with stuff like wordpress which adobe are touting, take a look at the links to the related files, it thinks some are in a different folder to the one that site is saved in! So it then says it doesnt exist when you try to edit!

Like you say, not enough testing. Or should i say, not enough testing by those who actually use it for business!

have you checked the hang isn't caused by this?.... I've just posted this

Dreamweaver cs5 has a major flaw

When 'related files' is turned on (a feature we are paying for!) and a webpage has code similar to the following in the header

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.4.2.min.js"></script>

At first launch after quitting, it takes dreamweaver between 1 and 2 minutes or more to open one web page.

This is EXTREMELY annoying and unacceptable for software which costs so much money.

Many designers use jquery now and may of us link directly to the latest file or jquery library.

What's the point in having a related files facility if we have to turn it off in order to use Dreamweaver with jquery or any other external files!!!!!?

Adobe?

Hi,

I've the same problem that Deon Kumara has but I don't have file vault activated. This problem started yesterday after installing an update suggested by the program.

Do you have any other suggestions?

Thanks

Yes, contact Adobe Technical Support. Even if the support agent can't solve the problem immediately, it's important that you report these problems directly to Adobe. That's the only way that Adobe can gather the information needed to solve a problem that affects some people, but not others. This is a user-to-user forum, where users share their knowledge to help each other. It's not an official support channel.

I know that it's little consolation to you, but I installed the Dreamweaver update on my MacBook Pro (Snow Leopard) on Friday, and Dreamweaver continues to work without problems. I always keep my version of Snow Leopard up to date with all the latest security patches.
