Essentially the statement above. I was working on a website in Dreamweaver for a client (one of the few times I even bother with dreamweaver) and everything was going well and I was working in my CSS document until dreamweaver froze for a second, and then everything was gone. My entire stylesheet, 6 hours of work, gone. So I closed the program and restarted it and it was still gone. Suffice it to say I am absolutely livid at the moment and I would like to know if there is a way to restore a file erased by dreamweaver? Otherwise is there a way to get a refund for this useless excuse for a program?

I had same problem.
For adobe staff, you can duplicate issue like following
while saving document through dreamviewer, shut down computer directly, take off power cable
I think dreamviewer takes content into memory then saves, when it takes memory it can not be written to file when dreamviewer crashes or computer shuts down
maybe on next versions, you will same to temp folder/file
I did 4 days works, just wanted to cry, my computer was shutdown and when I opened, file was empty
I tried different recovery tools, and RECUVA recovered my file
For those who face this problem, you can try recovering file through Recuva

Nurbek

I can't quite understand why no-one here uses some kind of local version control like git, or even a simple automatic versioning/backup on file save utility to avoid issues like these.
And why DW hasn't introduced some kind of local versioning by now...? Crazy if you think about it. Many IDEs offer local version control out of the box. Instead an automatic file recovery function is worked on by the DW devs... backwards thinking, if you ask me.

DW 2017 does have a backup file system as I have shown in reply #43.
If you have a look at Check in and check out files in Dreamweaver, Subversion was part of previous versions of Dreamweaver but was dropped in DW 2017. Whispers from the gallery say that the the DW development team are working on a version control for upcoming versions of DW.

OMG. DW erased my file too. this never happened before. I have a client here, and I can not recover the file. I had saved it several times and then the program just crashed so I restarted and the file I was working on just disappeared. WTF is going on here? I am on a mac DWCS6. How do I recover this file?

I'm not a Mac user but doesn't Mac have a feature where you can go back to an earlier point in time to recover files?

DW CC 2017 has an auto recovery feature. When my power cut out, DW recovered the documents.

yes i get this dialogue option when dw crash. but yesterday it didn't happened. I've been working on it for more than a week so yes obviously it was not my first time save. and i think the problem is with the css auto save mechanics because everyone is reporting the same. It never erase anything like this before when we were working on html but i was working on css until the power went out. So maybe this might might help the Adobe team to troubleshoot the issue as it is clearly css related.Thank you.

This is the first I've heard of it. I don't have any problems with CSS files. Probably because I work with the physical file and not the Related File Tabs which are merely ghost files.

maybe you should try opening a css file and pull the power plug to see it for yourself.

All my project files and site folders are backed-up nightly onto Backblaze. So even if the unthinkable happens, I will lose at most 1 day's work. And I use Ctrl+S constantly throughout my editing sessions. In Photoshop, I often have multiple versions of files to revert back to if needed.
I learned a long time ago, you can't have too many backups.

Feel your pain, but: why aren't you using some kind of versioning? Why risk working without on projects? Github Desktop is easy enough.

I like dreamweaver because it takes less time to complete the project. should've turned on the ups but this never happened so it took me by surprise.

This is outrageous ! I was coding, took a break of a couple of hours. got back to DW and when i was about to ammend smth in CSS it said"Sorry, no memory left on the specific folder you want to save this bla bla bla " so i closed it and reopened it . i did not go inside the folder where i had my code saved. the Css sheet was empty . 0kb. i could not beleive my eyes.
People!!! this cannot happen. Microsoft has an autorecovery option and is not so fancy and pretentious as DW is .
To not mention the importance of your hard work in coding and the work in simply typing letters in a word.
I am completely dissapointed with your product.
I will deffo use another code editor.
Goodbye Adobe!

I have had the same problem, apologies to revive a dead thread. Despite regular saving, Dreamweaver deleted
my HTML main document due to my computer shutting down. This is appaling because of my formerly mentioned fervent saving habits. Luckily I have a mobile (independent) version of the HTML which I can use to reconstruct the desktop file.

The File Auto-recovery system in CC 2017 works great for me! I know because we have frequent power outages in my area. Which version of DW do you have?

Any solution for this problem until now? This just happened to me right now... My PC crashed and I lost all my code without even save the file. Could anybody help?

If you never saved your file, there is nothing to recover.

The file was already saved before, when I said without saving the file, I was refering to that Dreamweaver session.. but nevermind, Dreamweaver created a temporary file with all the code I've done.
Thanks for the answer anyway.
