Been uploading files to my server with no problems for 5 years when suddenly I get this message which blocks all uploads. As far as I know I have never had or used a 'testing server'? Your help is solving this would be most appreciated.
1 Correct answer
To everyone who has toiled diligently to solve my DW problem these many days, I want to express my sincere and heartfelt gratitude. That you do this for the few bones Adobe sees fit to throw your way, demonstrates just how dedicated you really are to your profession and helping people like me manage, for over 20 years, with a technology it hardy understands.
Having said that, I regret to add you all wasted your time with me for the problem was not with DW at all, but with my ISP the past 12 year

Using what feature??
PHP files need a local testing server. Are you working with server-side scripts or databases?

Not using PHP files or TypeKit.

I am connected (by mistake) to Testing Server rather than Remote Server, but can't make the switch on DW CS 6.

I am using 'server sided scripts' if that means web page files and not a db.

Hello Photos by BIRON,
ähem , it's well known, that in all these cases you describe I'm not a friend of a detailed troubleshooting. To be able to be independent in all this things it is one of the reasons why I prefer an external FTP program. The difficulties with which you have to fight encourage me in this opinion, not least because we always search for experts, we don't charge a "jack of all trades".
To manage several websites or to upload my files and sometimes for the opposite way, for a necessary download from my server or to use a "a site-wide synch", I'm using FileZilla. It simply looks easier for me to keep track of all operations precisely and generate or reflect easily the desired tree structure.
Above all, FileZilla has a feature (translation from my German FileZilla) called "compare file list". Here it's possible to use file size or modification time as a criterion. There is also the possibility to "hide identical files", so that only these files which you want to redact remain visible.
And even if it means you have to install a new program, I am convinced that there is an advantage. Here is the link to get it and where you can read informations about how it works:
http://filezilla-project.org/ and http://wiki.filezilla-project.org/Tutorial#Using_the_site_manager
Mac: Mac OS X (Use: Show additional download options)
http://filezilla-project.org/download.php
Of course, you also need all the access data to reach your server and for MIME issues, you should contact your web host/provider.
Good luck!
Hans-Günter
P.S.
Since I use two screens, the whole thing became even more comfortable.

He B i r n o u, stop insulting please! What do you know about my "catch it", hein?
As I said above "that in all these cases you describe I'm not a friend of a detailed troubleshooting". In my case I got using "Ctrl (cmd) + Shift + U" this result:
It's another further argument for my proven procedure.
And don't forget OP's view, what was the reason for my proposal: "Lots of chatter, but no one is solving my problem."

If your keybord has no "ü" here we are: "& u u m l ;" naturally without the spaces.

Right. Most of us don't use CS6 anymore because it's 7 versions behind the current one. You'll need to adapt the info we give your to your particular version. In other words, you should NOT have a local testing server defined anywhere if you don't use server-side code (php, asp.net, cold fusion, python, etc...). You don't need one.
If all else fails, delete your current site definition and create a new one.

while others now appear as"index.html (XHTML)." Could that be the problem?

What document type declaration are you using -- HTML5 or HTML4?
Can you copy & paste the code in a web forum reply? Don't use email to paste code, it won't come through.
