Live view

LEGEND ,
Dec 30, 2008 Dec 30, 2008
On my notebook live view in CS4 results in displaying blank pages.
although there are some pages that work (no idea why, coding is ok). The
browser preview works for FF, IE and others.
Any idea how to sort out the problem?

It likely means that you have an error on the page you are trying to view.
Are these static or dynamic pages?

It is a .php page, still without dynamic content. According to the
validation service there is no error on the page. Strangely enough one
or two pages work in live view. Even the blank pages are displayed
without problem in the preview.
I've checked everything on my desktop pc, where it works.
I'm completely stumped.

Not likely.

Show us the code on one of the pages that is blank in Live view, please.

OK - this is good. So, that means that your Testing server is probably not
set up correctly. What is in the fields on your Testing server definition
panel?

Looks right to me.

Put a file in your site containing only this -

<?php phpinfo(); ?>

and preview it. What do you see?

The preview shows to me all the informations of php version 5.2.8
(liveview does not work). Is there a special section to check?

By the way - Happy new year to you!

Thanks - same wishes to everybody here!

Well - I'm stumped. Everything looks to be correctly set up, and the code
on the page is quite simple (and valid - good job!).

Maybe someone else can see something....

Yeah - I just thought of something. What do you have in the HTTP Address
field of the Local site definition? If anything, remove it, please.

Sadly - no success. Blank page in live view and the live-code button
shows, as before:
<html><body></body></html>
Short and effective code, isn't it.

That's typically what you see when you have served a page with a PHP error
on it, and PHP is set to not display error messages. Are you sure there's
no PHP markup in that page?

The only php markup is in the footer:

<?php ini_set('date.timezone', 'Europe/Berlin'); echo date('Y'); ?>

That markup is on every page, even on the one that is displayed in live
view.

Some progress. I've changed index.php to index.html and live view works.
There might be a bug in my php-installation (xampp) - although
imprint.php works fine?

If you get phpinfo() properly displayed, then your PHP install is good.

What happens if you remove that line of PHP from the page, but leave it with
the .php extension?

Wow. I'm baffled.

What happens if you include some other PHP on the page, e.g., in the middle
put -

<?php echo "Hello"; ?>
