Can anyone recommend a tutor for Dreamweaver 4....based in the Manchester, UK area. Yes, I know it's ancient, but there is a long story behind it going back to 2002. Need access to Web Site following death of Web Master.

In fact, you're not really on a forum where you can prospect for developers, this is more a place for DW enthusiasts to help each other out.

It's true that this forum has become less and less popular since Adobe made it clear that DW would no longer be in their sights, along with all other web design applications. As a result, everyone has their own alternative and is starting to seriously anticipate the migration of their projects to other tools.

Many thanks for your reply and advice.

Yes, same site. We are trying to access the site and where necessary update/ alter the content. We have the late Webmasters laptop with the Dreamweaver programme on it but none of us have the knowledge of how to use it or indeed how to access the site  We are all now in our late 70's / 80's and it's all beyond us. The way things are the Web Site and 20 plus years work will go down the pan. All we need is some one to help us to keep it going. The Web

So, if you're looking for a DW4 mentor, you're likely to come across some migration advice, or even a complete overhaul of your site base, mainly due to its age.

I understand your situation from various exchanges on another thread. Is this the same site we're talking about?

If so, what exactly do you expect from this 'tutor'?

  • simply to help you connect to your files and configure your work environment?
  • to help you take control of your site's management at an earlier stage, so that you can manage all modifications internally and independently with DW4?
  • that the 'tutor' takes over the management of your site?

I understand your situation and the distress it can cause. However, although everything can be discussed, questioned, reoriented, etc... I think you have in your hands the essentials, which will enable you to sort things out and take things in hand at your own pace and with serenity.

It doesn't matter if you're using an old version of Dreamweaver, or if your site is 20 years old, the bottom line is that it's still viewable online, and that to this day, it satisfies your own users. As long as you rent both your online space and your domain name, all services will remain uninterrupted and unchanged.

You'll always have time to modify certain approaches as you go along, if the need arises.

The most important thing is that you have the webmasters' computer, so everything should be stored on it, including all the necessary configuration, source files and, most importantly, access codes.

For the moment, all you need to do is set up a method of approach to verify all this.

I can't remember if this was said in the previous thread, but if you wish, and in order to verify all this together, we can set up the following methodology :

But let's take things one step at a time, and see what's happening with the previous questions?

If you are scrambling with things and admitting it is beyond you, I don't know that a tutor is what you need. If you go down the hiring a professional route, the first impression of the site to me is that it is outdated and needs to be updated to better maintain it. Otherwise in it's current form, it could be more trouble to maintain than otherwise necessary. This could mean updating on your current host to a template or CMS, or moving it off your host completely to a new solution that could be easier to maintain for non-technical users like a Wix/Webflow/etc.

Have you considered looking locally or inquiring with schools/universities or other local organizations to see about finding somoene who might be willing to do this for the historical or local value? That might be more targeted for you as opposed to broad forums like these that are not specific to your locale and as others have mentioned this no longer receives the traffic it once did as the program continues on a downward trend.

Personally speaking I would seek out someone to take over responsibilities instead of a tutor, but also consider that migration is likely necessary to keep maintenance costs down and to make the site more manageable by yourselves or others looking forward.

No.  Nobody has access to Dreamweaver 4 anymore.  It's dead.
