Project seven (PVII) website and email unavailable - does anyone here know why?

Hi

It appears that its not possible to contact the well known developer of dreamweaver extensions, project Seven (PVII) as their website says "Err_Connection_refused" and their support email address bounces back. Does anyone on here know if they are no longer in business? (were certainly still active earlier this year)

Thanks

The founder of Project Seven, Al Sparber, sadly passed away on June 13th, 2019. Since then there have been no updates to their extensions.

The only one that is still supplying updated extensions, after the passing of the founder of WebAssist, is DMXzone.

As a side note, Dreamweaver is dying a slow death. Investing in extensions for DW is a waste of money. Try other IDE's like VSCode, or, as I have done, Wappler.

Thanks for replying. Yes, I'm aware that Al Sparber passed away. The products definitely have been available for sale as recent as March this year, if not later and Gerry Jacobsen has been providing support, so back to my original question "Does anyone know for definite if project Seven is no longer in business please?"

Thanks

Thanks.

As I mentioned in my original post, the support email address bounces back. It's either a technical issue with the domain or, hence the question, the business may have closed without warning, so just asking if anyone out there actually knows the definitive answer.

You might be able to see what's on the wayback machine: http://web.archive.org/ as they are shut down, and it appears the website is completely offline at this point if you need to reference something on the website. At this point given that DW is in minimal maintenance and with a site using extensions that are no longer actively developed, it's probably worth considering how you can update that site to continue to maintain it without relying on the previous technology.

Hi Ben

Wow, didn't know about that. Their website isn't archived unfortunately - but a very useful site thank you.

Yes,the only reason I was hoping to get access was because the later extensions they developed had 'online help' and I stupidly neglected to capture and download them. I can use the extensions without, as they are well written and annotated, I just wanted to secure any help manuals for the future 'just in case'

Dreamweaver is fine for me, I'm not a development studio, I use it for a couple of websites for my golf club and it (plus the projectseven extensions) do everything I need tbh.

I did check out DMX zone and Wappler as advised above, but they are a safety net as currently I'm fine with what I have.

Thanks again

Pat

Doing a little poking around, it appears that Project Seven Development Inc, has been "Administratively Dissolved" per the Secretary of State of North Carolina.

That designation usually means the Secretary of State shut them down for failing to meet some beurocratic requirement, like filing forms or paying fees. They could be back, once they fix any issue(s), but they may voluntarily go to a Dissolved status, meaning out of business permanently.

  • Grid Layouts, Masonry
  • Forms Designer
  • Form Validation & Recaptcha
  • Google Maps, Navigation and Geo Location

Server Side components

I know nothing more than what I observe here:

1. This product community has been in decline for 3 years.

2. Our activity has dropped to less than 40 posts per month.

3. DW extensions are not in big demand.

4. Without new customers to support them, 3rd party extension developers can't survive.

😞

By @Nancy OShea

Longer than 3 years, but l get your point. Things have changed to the extent that there are dozens of apps, dozens of bits of software these days for creating websites so everyone who creates web apps have to settle for a smaller piece of the pie which means some will struggle.

The best days are over, it's now just mostly a car crash profession where no one really has any idea what they are supposed to be doing, therefore it's become a lot more of a fractured industry.

I used their extensions for over 20 years.  And yes they had not put anything new out in a long long time.  Their extensions were second to none.  I called their customer service number and got a voicemail that had a short message that did not mention Project Seven.  Up until yesterday pvii.com would still pull up their site, but that has gone also. I knew this day was coming, but hoped they would maybe get some "new blood" in there to create some more great stuff.

Are developers not using Dreamweaver anymore?  If they are using a different Adobe platform what is it?

If you try and access an internal page of the website it says its under construction, however l would assume that's not the case or issue as a similar message would almost certainly appear on the homepage given that PVII have always been and are extremely professional.

The day has most likely passed, everything over time evolves. PVII at the time Dreamweaver was at its height in popularity rode the wave and provided excellent products ie Dreamweaver extensions and an excellent after sales services as well.

Dreamweaver started to lose its way even when Al one of the founders of PVII was still alive. Dreamweaver has been in a slow decline for many years as other options became available to developers. In its heyday the program provided innovative solutions but for some reason, no one really knows, Adobe decided to somewhat abandon future development of Dreamweaver as a result of most probably an oversubscribed sector.

I'm afraid it is true, P7 is gone, without even a courtesy aloha email to their extensive list, just poof.

I've been using them for oaver 10 years with pretty good results, despite major CLS issues. I have tried contacting via email, phone, and website, nothing there, goodby Geri, thanks for your past help, but no thanks for the way you snuck out of town.

I am surprised Adobe didnt attempt to buy PVII and incorporate their extensions into Dreamweaver. I have been using CS6 until recently as wow it does not work so well on windows 11, but find there is little diffenence in CS6 and the latest version of DW.

Belated condolences to Al's family and friends.

P7 was always so helpful, even to those who lacked in technical ability.   So now at 82 years of age, I am attempting to maintain an old website.  I recently lost my Win10 PC.  Now, I'm struggling to being Win11 up to speed.  All of my P7 extensions are on c-drive and the website file folder is complete as it was on the old PC.  I am able to open html and edit but  I'm unable to edit the navigation that uses an extension.  If you could help, it will be appreciated.  Best wishes

Read through all your conversations and so grateful to find this thread and all the information in it.

I had been emailing with Gerry concerning art gallery magic as recent as October 28 , 2024 and getting feedback from him and then suddenly everything's down and disconnected.

. I'm hoping they get their situation With the administration of North Carolina straightened out and get the site back online

however, I'm also learning from this thread that the technology of Project Seven wasn't going forward With the technology advances.

I never made copies of the extension support PDFs and I'm wondering if there are Project Seven users that I could turn to for help with our gallery magic to begin with

  • I've been a user of Project Seven since 2013. Am open to suggestions on how to change my direction with software and look forward to transitional support..
