Running Dw CS4 on a mac (10.4.11) and I installed several extension from various creators using the extensions manager. Then I quit that and launched Dw. I created blank html page to insert and experiment with some of the new stuff and the extensions aren't showing up in the insert menu. Am I being an idiot? Where are they. I installed YUI and GoogleGadgets and phatfusion and a few others.

Not sure if this helps you or not.  But I usually access my extensions from little icons near the top of the toolbar or using the Command or Insert menus (near the bottom).  In any case, the extension provider should have given you some instructions on how to use their product.

First, thanks for the reply.

Second, I did look under the insert menu and they are not there as they should be. I tried the same extensions on another machine running CS4 and they installed w/o issue. So, I am uncertain why they aren't working on this one. I got rid of older Dw applications and extensions managers, but when the CS4 extensions manager tells me they are installed, nothing new shows up in the Dw insert menu. Weird. Is there another way to install these extensions? Anything perhaps similar to how Photoshop handles plug-ins. Maybe dragging them to a predetermined folder?

Any help anyone can offer would be appreciated, as I would love to be able to use some of the extensions in Dw.

With the Extension Manager open and your extension selected, the bottom pane should list out how to access the extension. If you cannot access the extension via that description, try to disable, then reenable the extension by check and unchecking next to the extension name.

Make sure you did this with Dreamweaver closed.

MXPs can only be installed via Extension Manager.

I disabled the extensions that I had installed using the CS4 extensions manager, then re-enabled them. Then launched Dw. No luck I am afraid. Still nothing showing up in the insert menu.

I wish it would be as easy as throwing a plug-in into the proper directory, because this method doesn't seem to be working. I will try to install extensions for another CS4 app and see how that goes. Maybe I just need to uninstall all the apps and reinstall them. It doesn't seem like they are working in chorus with each other.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

The items you mentioned in your inital post seem to be Web Widgets and should appear as a new tab/category in the Insert bar. I tried one of the phatfusion extensions (as you didn't say which specific extensions you are working with) and it appears as a "phatfusion" tab on my insert bar, and "phatfusion" appears on the very bottom of the Insert menu.

If you're still not seeing the menu/insert bar items, then there does appear to be is something wrong with the install.

What you said should happen does in one of the two Dw's I tested it on. The one I use does not work however. I installed a flash plugin and it worked in flash, so it is a Dw issue. Guess I will reinstall. Thanks. I will let you know if it works.

I unistalled and reinstalled Dw today. No luck. I turned off the extensions I had installed, turned them back on, installed others - No dice. So, I guess I won't use them. This is a weird error. Perhaps I will call adobe and inquire as to how to solve it. Maybe.

I had the same issue using DW CS4 under Vista X64. I closed DW, I launched DW-Extension Manager as ADMIN, ENABLE/DISABLE, started DW at least once as ADMIN again and, see that: it works! Hope it helps!

I am on a mac, thanks for the try. I am running the admin account on the system without any success of installing any of them. I have pretty much given up for now. I think I will just need to completely uninstall some time.

1st question, did you use the extension manager for CS4 or a previous version to install the extensions (using a previous version will not install the extension for DW CS4).?

The extensions you mentioned now appear (or should) as a tab along with the common / layout feature etc. If you cannot see the tabs click on the lower (below the main menu) panels drop down list (below the File menu), and select open in tabs.

Yes, you suppose right: I used CS4 only. I have no other CS3 product. I´m

really new in DW.

I don´ know if the extensions that created the problem to me are the same as

the ones that did it to you (I have installed the LIGHTBOX GALLERY and

another called CREATE FLASH PHOTO ALBUM), but the behaviour was the same as

described: installed but not to find. Now everithing works, as a tab, as a

menu... it is ok.

Thanks a lot,

have a nice day,

Francesco
