Hi all,
When I try to install the ActiveX plugin with the installer that came with my Flash Player plugin version 11.2.202.228 it gives an error message that says...
Error 1722.There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Action NewCustomAction1, location:..\InstallAX.exe, com...
You can see my screenshot of this error message that comes up during the installation, at the bottom of this post.
I'm using the Flash Player 11.2.202.228 because the newest version 11.4 crashes too much. Also, the newest Flash Player plugin 11.4 installer does not come with a separate installer for the ActiveX plugin, but the 11.2.202.228 Flash Player plugin does come with a separate installer for the ActiveX plugin, but it gives me this error message.
Also, there is no separate ActiveX plugin installer that I can find on the Adobe website... all I can find is the ActiveX debugger installer, whatever that is.
Can anyone help?
Thanks,
digiday
Hello,
I will attempt to address a few issues in this thread (not necessarily in the order they appear in the thread posts):

Try a clean install, as described in http://forums.adobe.com/thread/928315
If you still have problems with the 11.2.202.228 install, please post the contents of the FlashInstall.log file in folder C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash

Hi Pat,
Thanks for your reply.
What the problem here is that the instructions on the page you linked are for the Flash player uninstall and re-install and it doesn't say anything about the SEPARATE ActiveX plugin installer that comes with the Flash Player 11.2.202.228... and that seems to be something that Adobe themselves are missing when it comes to installing their own ActiveX installer... it is separate from the Flash plugin installer in this case.
That instruction page and the video on it ONLY talk about uninstalling and re-installing the Flash Player plugin... NOT the ActiveX plugin.
And there is no separate ActiveX installer available on the Adobe website... only the ActiveX debugger installer.
When I installed the Flash Player plugin 11.2.202.228, I first uninstalled the previous 11.4 version that was defective... I had to. Then I thought since I was uninstalling the Flash Player 11.4 plugin to put in the 11.2 version, that I'd need to do the same with the ActiveX plugin... that was my mistake apparently.
Now, as can be seen in my screenshot below, the Flash Player plugin installer file named "flashplayer11_2r202_228win_32.msi" works just fine and it installs correctly after I uninstall the newer 11.4 Flash plugin.
But also seen in my screenshot, the ActiveX installer file named "flashplayer11_2r202_228winax_32.msi" will not install and it gives me the error message in the following screenshot below.
Adobe, and everyone, seem to think that the ActiveX installer is not separate in the Flash 11.2.202.228 installer package, like the installer for the Flash 11.4 is, in one single installer, but it is separate... that's the difference... right?
You can also see my Flash Player Settings Manager control panel that shows that the ActiveX plugin is not installed.
See the contents of the installer log file below the screenshots.
Thanks.

I do not know what that error 00001013 means.
Do you get the same message if you run the exe installer instead of the msi?

Hello,
I will attempt to address a few issues in this thread (not necessarily in the order they appear in the thread posts):

fixed typo. 11.3 should have been 10.3

Hi Pat, Maria and Muxi,
First, Muxi... I dnt thnk u wr flwing me 2 bgn wth. Mab if u wrt lke a nrml prsn, I cud undrstd u & if u red my pst mr crfly, we wud b on the sm pg.
Second, Pat, I forgot to include that result in my previous explanation and series of screenshots. Yes I also tried to install the ActiveX plugin with the .exe file as well, but I figured that since the .msi file is actually labeled as the installer, then I'd rely mostly on that result.
But when I try to install the ActiveX plugin with the .exe file I get another error message, shown in my screenshot below telling me that the Flash Player that I'm trying to install is not the most current version. But it isn't the Flash Player plugin that I'm trying to install, it is the ActiveX plugin with the ActiveX installer that I'm trying to install.
I swear, Adobe has more erroneous error messages than Microsoft, or they are at least neck and neck right now. It seems that Adobe could at least get the difference straight between their own Flash plugin installer files and error messages and their ActiveX plugin installer files and error messages.
And Third, Maria, thanks for your reply. I'm going to sort through all you've posted for me to see if I can get a team of IT experts together and decipher your instructions... I'll reply later after a few days of analysis.
Sorry if I'm getting a little pissy, but I'm wondering if Adobe could make this any more complicated.
Thanks,
digi

Maria's most important point is that the 1013 error is a downgrade attempt error. Meaning a newer version is still partially installed.
Run the latest uninstaller from http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html then restart Windows. Make sure that nothing is left in folder C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash then try to install 11.2 again.

Hi all,
Somehow my Active X plugin got installed or updated itself last December... I didn't pursue it any further than the last time I posted on this thread, last October, but now my Programs and Features and my Flash Player - Advanced settings in my Windows 7 Control Panel both show that I now have the "Adobe Flash Player 11 Active X" version 11.5.502.135, whereas I still have my older "Adobe Flash Player 11 plugin" version 11.2.202.228.
So I'm not sure if it automatically installed itself somehow or what, but it's there now.
But I have another semi-related browser question that I'm wondering might have something to do with Active X.
I've saved some HTML pages from the past, and many of them show up correctly when I open them in any of my five different web browsers, but I have some saved HTML pages that will not display correctly, but they used to. The pages that don't display correctly seem to be displaying in a sort of "Text Only" mode, or something is missing or changed in the HTML files that were saved.
Below are samples of the way part of one of one saved HTML pages should show up, and then a sample of how that part of that page displays when it is not displaying correctly...
CORRECT
INCORRECT
This is just a small sample of how the same page can show up correctly or not. These two samples are from saves of the same HTML page, but one page save of the exact same page displays correctly, and one the same page saved at a different time does not display correctly.
The topper is, that some of my older HTML page saves still display correctly, and some of them don't, and some of my newer HTML page saves that I saved display correctly, and some of them don't display correctly. And not all the pages that I've saved are this same page, but I still have problems with various HTML pages not displaying correctly, then some of my saves of the same page do display correctly.
I have the newest version of Google Chrome, version 26.0.1410.64, an old version of Internet Explorer 8, an older version of Firefox 5, and a semi-new version of Firefox 10 Portable, and Apple Safari 5.1.7, and all of those browsers display these pages (the pages that display incorrectly) the same way, in what seems to be a Text Only mode or something.
This, to me, seems to be something that is related to something between a system setting or a missing plugin and what is apparently how both my current Google Chrome and Firefox 5 browsers save from time to time, since I only used those two browsers to save these HTML page files, but I have problems with saves from both of those browsers, and I have HTML page files from both of those browsers that display correctly, as they did when they were live pages, originally in those browsers before I saved them.
But this seems to be random, because as I said, a lot of my newer HTML page saves have this problem when they display, but also some of my older HTML page saves also have the problem, and vice-verse... that is, some of my newer HTML page saves do not have this problem displaying, and some of my older HTML page saves do not have this problem either.
The reason that I thought it might have something to do with Active X, even though I apparently do have my Active X plugin now, is that when I open one of these problem HTML page files that don't display correctly in my old Internet Explorer 8 browser, it first gives me a message that says...
"To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has restricted this webpage from running scripts or ActiveX controls that could access your computer. Click here for options"
But Internet Explorer 8 apparently doesn't know that I'm opening this HTML page from a set of HTML files on my hard drive. So when I click "Click here for options...", it gives me an option for "Allow blocked content", and then I get a message that says...
"Allowing active content such as script and ActiveX control can be useful. However, active content might also harm your computer. Are you sure you want to let this file run active content? Yes / No"
To which I select "Yes" but it still doesn't display the problem HTML page file correctly.
Any ideas?
Thanks again,

Here's a little follow-up to that last question with some new file info that I found.
These are screenshots of the support files for two saved HTML pages, saved from the same webpage at two different times... the first one is for the page that DOES NOT DISPLAY CORRECTLY when opened from my hard drive, and the second one is for the same page that DOES DISPLAY CORRECTLY when opened from my hard drive.
Note, again, that these two HTML page saves are saved files sets from the same webpage... the later one (the one that displays correctly) was just with more comments and photos on it, saved at a later date.
But when I tested both of these files sets by opening them from my hard drive when I first saved them, BOTH of them displayed correctly, both displaying with their full page style and structure.
For the non-working HTML page file that displays in a Text Only style in five different web browsers when opened from my hard drive, that is, the saved HTML page file and accompanying folder of support files that DOES NOT DISPLAY CORRECTLY, there are nine (9) Javascript (.js) files and then the photo files that appear on the page... here is a screenshot of the 9 Javascript (.js) files...
Above: NOT WORKING - SUPPORT FILES FOR THE PAGE THAT DOES NOT DISPLAY CORRECTLY
But for the working file, that is, the saved HTML page file and accompanying folder of support files that DOES DISPLAY CORRECTLY when opened from my hard drive, there are nine (9) Javascript (.js) files, plus two (2) Cascading Style Sheet (.css) files, then the photo files that appear on the page... here, below, is a screenshot of the 9 Javascript (.js) files AND the 2 Cascading Style Sheet (.css) files...
Above: WORKING - SUPPORT FILES FOR THE PAGE THAT DOES DISPLAY CORRECTLY - INCLUDES TWO CASCADING STYLE SHEET (.css) FILES
So what this indicates is that the page that is not displaying correctly, being the one that displays in a Text Only style in five different web browsers, is missing its CASCADING STYLE SHEET (.css) files, and that would be why it isn't displaying correctly.
But, as I said, when I first saved both of those saved HTML pages, they both displayed correctly when opened from my hard drive, it was only later that some of my saved HTML pages started having this problem.
I tried copying the two Cascading Style Sheet (.css) files from the support files folder from the set for the page that does display correctly into the support files folder for the page that does not display correctly, but it didn't change anything. I didn't really think that would work, but it was a shot in the dark.
I am able to edit the HTML code in a webpage via an editor like NotePad, and I can open the Javascript files and the Cascading Style Sheet files, but I don't know how to try to correct this problem for the 15 or so saved HTML problem pages that I would like to fix.
The same goes for other file sets that I've checked where I saved two or more different sets for the same web page... the page that displays correctly has its .CSS files, and the page that does not display correctly DOES NOT have its .CSS files... some pages that display correctly have two .CSS files and some have three.
Are there any ideas out there?
Thanks again,
Digi

Here is the information that I found elsewhere on the subject of these missing .CSS files...
The HTML file is still referencing the website server from which they came for some files (the .CSS files), and the website owner has moved those files, or renamed them. In this case, there may be no way to bring your local display back to the full format. It might be possible to tell if this is the case by looking in the HTML files for references to .CSS files and see if it is looking on a website to get that file.
I checked out the possibility of editing the .CSS files that DID save with some of the working file sets yesterday to try to make them work with the file sets that are missing their .CSS files, and it would be nearly impossible to edit those to work with the files sets that were saved without their .CSS files.
The code within the .CSS files seems to be dedicated specifically to the file sets that they were generated with, with a lot of exclusive code that refers to files that belong to only that file set, as well as a lot of other unidentifiable lines of code.
The same goes for the code within the HTML files themselves, so it isn't worth getting in to. It would be like trying to make the Space Shuttle's software work with the software that runs the Hubble telescope or the Mars lander.

Hi Digiday,
bizzarely i was looking for a solution to the SAME problem and without actually finding the solution, found i fixed it by just "poking around" the "settings" menu in the browser (rather than in Flash itself). This worked for me:
I had to change a setting in IE 10 by “ticking” the “use software rendering instead of GPU rendering”. Thought this might be relevant for support team as I am using IE 10…the latest Microsoft Browser.
