Adobe Flash Player Installation on Windows 7 - 64 Bit

I can not get Adobe Flash Player to install I have

Verified my Windows is 64 bit  - Changed the ActivX controls to the proper settings as listed

Shut down the Internet Explorer prior to installation

Downloaded & saved the file from Adobe

Nothing works  It installs to 66% and stops  Says it can not install and the Finish Button is there

What can I do Thank You

Hi,

Please review the FAQ Where do I find the Flash Player installation log on Windows? and provide all 3 of the log files.  Since this is a 64-bit OS, provide the FlashInstall.log file from the System32 and SysWOW64 directories.  Upload the files to cloud.acrobat.com using the instructions How to share a document or some other file sharing service of your choice.

Do you have anti-virus software installed?  If so, which one?

Hi,

The Macromed directory is not in the Windows directory.  It's in C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ and C:\Windows\System32.  Are you saying you don't have the Macromed directory in SysWow64 and System32?  If not, was Flash Player previously installed on this system?

Even if you don't have this directory, please do provide the Adobe_ADM.log file.

Hi,

Without log files we can't troubleshoot the error with the online installer.  You can try the offline installer posted at the bottom of the Installation problems | Flash Player | Windows 7 and earlier in the 'Still having problems' section.  If that doesn't work, I'll need the log files to troubleshoot.

The only way to proceed at this time is to obtain the installation log files from you, which should provide information as to why the installation is failing.  Since you've not been able to provide the log file we can't troubleshoot further.

Hi,

It's possible your message needed approval from a moderator before posting.  When a moderator approves a post, a message is sent to the author stating their post was approved.

The installation is failing due to permissions errors on several files.  These permissions errors are preventing Flash Player from correctly uninstalling files from previous versions and then installing the new version.  There are various reasons this happens, and could be due to anti-virus software or some other software.  Please review this Microsoft kb article https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/968003 and run SubInAcl to reset the permissions on the file system and registry.  You should be able to install Flash Player afterwards.  I would perform tasks in the following order:

1. Follow the instructions in the Microsoft article to run SubInAcl (I don't know how long this will take, but let it run until it finishes)
2. Reboot the system
3. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the following two directories and ensure all files have been removed:
   1. c:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash
   2. c:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash
4. If files remain, reboot the system, then check the directories again.  They should be empty
5. Download the installer from https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer
6. Close all browsers and other software that may use Flash Player (e.g. instant messaging software, and similar)
7. Run the installer downloaded in step 5
8. Verify Flash Player is installed:
   1. Launch browser and navigate to https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player.html
   2. Click the 'Check Now' button
   3. widget will display the OS/browser version and installed Flash Player version

Hi,

I'm not sure what happened there.  We've recommended this solution to users in the past an never encountered an issue.  I searched a bit for this behaviour and found the following, from the Microsoft community, which seems similar to your situation: there is not enough free memory to run this program. exit one or more - Microsoft Community‌. While there is a solution provided at the top (one answer marked correct) I recommend reading through the entire page as it contains a number of different suggestions.  I can't guarantee this will work, as I've not encountered the situation you face, but only recommend it since it's similar to what you describe.

Hi,

I'm not aware of a Flash Player substitute in the browser.

The log file you posted don't have any recent Flash Player installation entry.  The last entry was April 18, 2015.  Please try the following:

1. Download the Flash Player uninstaller
2. Download the Flash Player installer for Internet Explorer and Firefox (I see both in the log file you posted):
   • Flash Player for Internet Explorer - ActiveX
   • Flash Player for Firefox - NPAPI
3. Close ALL browsers, the Control Panel, and any other programs that may use Flash Player (e.g. Yahoo! Instant messenger, Windows Instant Messenger, Weatherbug, etc)
4. Run the uninstaller
5. Reboot the system
   • Do not open any browsers, the Control Panel, and make sure any programs that may use Flash Player are not open.  If they are, close them.
6. Open Windows Explorer and go to
   • C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash - directory should only contain the FlashInstall.log file
   • C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash - directory should only contain FlashInstall.log and mm.cfg files
7. If the directories contain any other files, take a screenshot (see How to post a screenshot in the forum) and post the screenshot in your reply.
   
   
8. If the directories are empty, proceed to install Flash Player using the files downloaded in step 2 above
9. If there are any errors:
   • take a screenshot and post the screenshot in your reply
   • post updated FlashInstall.log file from the C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash directory

Hi,

Thanks for posting the screenshots.  The 'failed to register' error is for Flash Player ActiveX for IE.

To enable Flash Player in Firefox see the instructions in the Enable Flash Player for Firefox‌ tech note

To enable Flash Player in IE see the instructions in the Enable Flash Player for Internet Explorer‌ tech note

To disable ActiveX Filter see the instructions in the ActiveX Filtering in Internet Explorer FAQ

But since Flash Player for IE failed to register it's not going to show anything in IE.

Please do the following:

1. Make file extensions visible so that the extension displays in Windows Explorer  See Show or hide file name extensions - Windows Help‌
2. Post the updated FlashInstall.log file saved at C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash directory
