hi,
yeah ive been having this issue with my laptop going on
2 years now, and ive tried many things already, and nothing seems to help.
when i go to the Settings Manager [Global Storage Settings]
it will not allow me to check the "Allow third-party Flash content" box
here's a screencap of what it just does
- http://i46.tinypic.com/jhep1u.jpg
ive read on these forums and others found via google
such as this one:
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/128188
and get lost at what else to do.
i've uninstalled adobe flash player, reinstalled it, the proper way
noted on the website using the updated uninstaller and installer
and i just can't seem to get flash to work right..
i've even gone to the extent of re-installing windows vista
to start fresh and nothing.
don't get me wrong it does work.
i am able to browse videos on youtube and a few various sites
but i am unable to view or play myspace videos or music players
various flash based websites and such.
now i turn to the members of this forum
to ask for help, to see what i could do..
currently running
flash player version: 10.0.45.2

Hi, Just to be sure you have the latest FP files installed, you may want to check your Flash folder and post the list
back here.
Also in IE, check the add ons for Shockwave Flash Object....ActiveX Control....Flash10e.ocx and that it is enabled.
After so many Uninstalls/Installs it is always a good idea to take stock of what files are where, glitches happen:-)
Before you do that try this link: http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager03.html and see if you can now check the setting.
Thanks,
eidnolb

Hi, ok thanks for checking. Your IE Flash files are fighting with each other:-) The FlashUtil10b.exe needs removed, it is 4th version back, forgot the # at the moment.
In the manage add ons was a Flash10??.ocx listed?
I can't remember is I asked what version of IE you were using, but that would help, also are you using FF, or?
You need to have the correct Flash Player files installed before you can set the Global Settings.
What about your Java? In add/remove please list all Java entries and version#'s. We may as well make sure FP, SWO and Java are correct, since they all work together.
Thanks,
eidnolb

so how would i go about removing it?
when i completely uninstall flash, two or three files remain in the flash
folder, with the inability to delete them..
yes, the Flash10e.ocx file was listed.
i have IE8 installed, but i do not use it.
i'm currently using Mozilla Firefox v3.5.8
and with Java, i just finished updating it.
it now running Version 6 Update 18.
also, if it may help, my operating system is
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium

Hi, Ok, your Flash files for FF are correct, and the SWO is correct. Vista is sort of touchy, and IE8 is restrictive:-)
However, we are going to try to remove that one IE Flash file in a minute.
Did you install the JRE 6 update 18, in other words the JRE platform. Unless you are a Developer you would not need the JDK, jus asking.
In the IE add ons, you should have 3 Jave plug-ins 1.6.0.18 , one 2SSV plug-in BHO, and probably the JQSIE BHO.
If you have anything different, let me know, or the JDK platform.
Check on that and then we'll see about the one Flash file.
Thanks,
eidnolb

Ok wxpx89, seems like there is only one issue left. Now I do not use IE8 and it is somewhat difficult when I myself have
not been able to actually do this. IE8, like I said is restrictive but we'll try this. Go to the Flash folder, and right click on that FlashUtil10b.exe (don't touch the 10"e") now, IF you see in the window that opens a Remove or Delete, do that and reboot. If you don't, then go to Properties>Security>Advanced. Then select and remove any/all type of permission that
has Deny listed. Close Properties. Now Delete that file.
I hope this works for you. This is one option to try so you don't have to Uninstall again.
I would have all browsers closed for this also.
Thanks,
eidnolb

Hi wxpx89, just checking to see if you solved the last part of your problem. If you have please advise. It's always
helpful to know when something works and to also know when it doesn't:-)

Hi wx, Ok, so now in your Flash files you should have all that you had listed before except the FlashUtilb.exe which you managed to remove. If you don't mind just confirming that for the IE files.
While you are there in the Flash folder, right click on NPSWF32.dll and click on Properties and make sure the version is 10.0.45.2 and do the same for NPSWF32_FlashUtil.exe.
If all Flash files for IE are 10.0.45.2 and the FF Flash files that you are checking for vs 10.0.45.2 are that, then all of your Flash files are correct. If not, then we need to address that.
Now to the SWO in IE manage add ons, we confirmed that it is enabled and is vs 10.0.45.2.
Did we check the SWF in FF plug-ins for vs 10.0.45.2 and that it is enabled?
Summary: If all Flash files for IE and FF are correct and the IE SWO is correct and the FF SWF is correct then we are done
with Flash Player.
Let's confirm all of this before moving on.
Thanks,
eidnolb

ok so yes, these are the currently files listed in the Flash, folder:
the NPSWF32.dll file version is: 10.0.45.34
the NPSWF32_FlashUtil.exe files version is 10.0.45.2
in the IE Manage Add-on's folder the SWO is at 10.0.45.2
the SWF FF Plugin is v10.0.45.34

Hi wx, I'm glad you checked those files. There is a problem. The IE Flash files are correct and the SWO for IE is correct.
The FF files and the SWF are not, those are old versions.
I don't like the way the FF files are listed, you cannot tell what version they are. I should have had you check that before.
My mistake on that.
Using IE you should be able to see the Global Settings, use the following link and see if it works:
http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager02.html
While you are checking that, I'll get the info to see if we can update the FF from the Flash files instead of an Uninstall.
Thanks,
eidnolb

Hi, I'll go check to see what you are looking at. I do know that the Global Settings is not the most easily understood site.
I've spent several hours reading until I did understand it and find I don't have it memorized so I have to go look.
I also know that there is one setting that will over rule another setting, just don't ask me which is which:-)
Thanks,
eidnolb
Update: That which you were looking at is the Global Privacy Settings and concerns microphones and cameras only.
Is that what you wanted to set? If not what setting did you want?
Thanks

Hi wx, In the Flash files, the NPSWF32.dll and the SWF plug-in were both listed as vs 10.0.45.34 per your info. Before we try to update those, I would like for you to please recheck to make sure those version numbers are correct.
As far as I can tell, these two FF flash files are the only issues that need resolved.
Thanks,
eidnolb

Thanks wx, I just had to be sure since we didn't want to remove the wrong file:-)
What we are going to be doing is updating the NPSWF32.dll by USING the NPSWF32_FlashUtil.exe to do so.
I would have all browsers closed to do this.
Go to the Flash folder and right click on the NPSWF32_FlashUtil.exe and RUN it. Now if it says Update, then use that function. Mine says RUN. Let it completely finish. Then check the NPSWF32.dll properties and see if the version is now
10.0.45.2. Just make note of the version for that file. When this is finished and noted, proceed as follows:
Still in the Flash files, find the SWF plug-in vs 10.0.45.34 which we want to remove by USING the uninstall_plug-in.exe to do so. Right click on the uninstall_plug-in.exe and if it says Remove or Delete, do so. If it doesn't, but says RUN instead, use RUN. Let that finish and confirm the SWF plug-in vs 10.0.45.34 has been removed.
After both actions have been completed, then Reboot, and get back to me with the results.
Now you can right click on each of the above that we are using and tell me whether it is RUN, Remove/Delete if you like
before you actually start this.
Thanks

the NPSWF32_FlashUtil.exe files wouldn't load..
so i used the uninstall_plugin.exe file, uninstalled it
and reinstalled it via the DLM file on the adobe flash site.
it installed, i check out the Settings Manager and
the Allow Third-Party Content was now check marked.
i then restarted my computer..
i restarted firefox to check out a myspace music page to
see if it now works. and it loads the player but wont play
the music, and a few other flash pages and loads but wont
work properly.
but hey it now allows third party content

Hi wx, well that is about as strange as having two different versions of the FF flash files. I always give those .exe files
lots of leeway, don't want to set them off:-) That it would execute is puzzling.
So now you have the SWF plug-in vs 10.0.45.2, well that is one thing done that was needed.
Third party content, cool.
Check to make sure that DLM is gone, it is supposed to disconnect after downloading but sometimes it doesn't and is
known to cause problems. If it is still listed in Programs and Features, I'd remove it and if you see a getPlus, do the same.
That DLM/getPlus didn't add an activex into your add ons did it?
Is IE8 working on the websites that are not playing properly with FF?
Have you re-checked your Flash files for the FF files? You don't have to post them back, just to be sure they are all still there, even the one that couldn't be removed.
I'll do a little searching on that FF Flash file.
Thanks,
eidnolb

Hi wx, check this out from FF
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing+the+Flash+plugin?bl=n&s=NPSWF32.dll&as=q
Page down to "Flash does not work properly and/or will not update"
This is about that old NPSWF32.dll
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
eidnolb
