Adobe Flash Player - Won't Allow Third-Party Flash Content, Question???

New Here ,
Feb 27, 2010 Feb 27, 2010

hi,
yeah ive been having this issue with my laptop going on
2 years now, and ive tried many things already, and nothing seems to help.

when i go to the Settings Manager [Global Storage Settings]
it will not allow me to check the "Allow third-party Flash content" box

here's a screencap of what it just does
- http://i46.tinypic.com/jhep1u.jpg

ive read on these forums and others found via google
such as this one:
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/128188

and get lost at what else to do.
i've uninstalled adobe flash player, reinstalled it, the proper way
noted on the website using the updated uninstaller and installer
and i just can't seem to get flash to work right..
i've even gone to the extent of re-installing windows vista
to start fresh and nothing.

don't get me wrong it does work.
i am able to browse videos on youtube and a few various sites
but i am unable to view or play myspace videos or music players
various flash based websites and such.

now i turn to the members of this forum
to ask for help, to see what i could do..

currently running
flash player version: 10.0.45.2

11.1K

Hi wx, hope you saw my post from Mozilla.

That DLM, one less item to be concerned with. Thanks for checking the FF files.

Well, we know IE has the correct files and the SWO is correct. Now why that is not working, simply means something is preventing it. Normally one would take a look at their IE add ons that may be conflicting. Usually you could rule out any

Microsoft add ons, since we are talking IE here, Java(which we already covered), Shockwave Flash Object of course,

Adobe Reader helper. Some that can cause issues are Skype, Google Toolbar and their many add ons, Google Script or any

other Script add on, some Anti-Virus programs install BHO's or ActiveX controls, Other Toolbars with add ons.

Those are just some off the top of my head. Any programs that you may have installed recently that would drop an add on in.

Of course the same would apply to FF, especially like Ad-block. But that old Flash file we know about. I hope you get a

chance to read that Mozilla link. It appeared to me they said just to remove it. And they showed how to do it. Do you think

it is not needed?

Well take a look.

Thanks,

eidnolb

a second and and pauses, and so on.

i uninstalled ad-block plus, cause ihad it installed
and uninstalled skype, to see if it helped yet,
nothing has changed, i wonder what the issue is..

Hi wx, Well, it is certainly something preventing or conflicting. The forum file attachments is still not working. If it was

you could send a screenshot of the add ons in IE and FF.

Are you familiar with the PM, at the top where you see your name "Welcome", I'll send you a PM, you'll see "Your Stuff"

will be in red.

Thanks,

eidnolb

and here are screencaps of my IE and FF plug-in/add-ons:

  • IE
  • http://i47.tinypic.com/5sgh1.jpg

  • FF
  • http://i48.tinypic.com/kb8t8y.jpg

Hello again, Thanks for all of the info. I'll review it and than get back to you. On the yahoo, there may be a problem with their website; will try to find the comment from one of the responses to a thread here.

Well, any glitch with javascript would be important. I'll review to see if we checked on that. At the moment I can't remember.

I'm sure I have something on it, seems as if I have most everything else:-) The reason I think that is I have cleaned up my desktop and consolidated folders to put them on CD's. Even I didn't know I had so many topics and links.

Thanks,

Hi wx, Is the CA Toolbar and CA Toolbar helper the Computer Associates Security Anti-Virus?  If so please post back the version number and full description.

Thanks, haven't gotten to the FF add ons yet, but will.  The CA has been a problem for some users.

yes it is CA Internet Security

  • CA Link Advisor 1.0.0.79
  • CA Toolbar 1.0.0.79

the complete version of CA is:

  • CA Internet Security Suite 2008 (which i installed in '08)

  1. -Product Version: 4.0.0.205
  2. -CA Anti-Virus: 9.0.0.194
  3. -CA Anti-Spyware: 10.0.0.210
  4. -CA Personal Firewall: 10.0.0.162
  5. -CA Anti-Spam: 6.0.1.33
  6. -CA Website Inspector: 1.0.0.79

i update it every day or when i get the chance to (no personal home internet makes it difficult)

and with Firefox, they are incompatible due to the
fact i'm running v3.5.8

Hi wx, Using IE, find the personal Firewall of CA and turn off the ad/pop-up blocker which is under the Privacy Option.

We need to check the Javascript. Using IE, go to Internet Options, Select the Security Tab, click on Custom Level,

scroll down to Scripting(near the bottom), Under Active Scripting, make sure it is Enabled. If it is already Enabled, just close out. If you have had to Enable it, select OK and close.

We'll get to FF after we finish with IE.

After you take care of the above and using IE, Disable all add ons except Shockwave Flash Object, WMP and the Java.

This means Disable all Third Party Toolbars also for this test.

Then try your websites.

( I tried all you listed and had no problem, except the yahoo screenshot did look weird)

Let me know the results.

Thanks,

eidnolb

Hi wx, Ok, you turned off the ad/pop-up blocker right?

Was your Javascript already enabled or did you need to enable it?

You disabled all that I suggested?

Now the myspace music players are working the same, as in they are not working?

Thanks, just trying to make sure what worked for you.

eidnolb

I will have some info on FF in a minute.

Thanks wx. We'll keep my space in mind; I wonder if the site itself is having a problem? Any of your friends having a problem? If not what version of Flash Player are they using? Perhaps not the latest? Just a thot.

Ok, on FF, go to Programs and Features and I think you may have an old Java installed. Look for Java SE 6 update13,

Remove it please if it is there and Reboot.

In some of your FF, is RealJukebox NS Plug-in needed? Looks like the version is old?

What is VLC Multi-Media Plug-in, needed? Old? vs 1.0.2.0?

The 2007 Microsoft Office System plug-in for Netscape Navigator 12.0.4518.1014   I have not checked it out yet, but will, just mentioned it. Thot you may have some idea what it is for. Since a plug-in for Microsoft Office  Live plug-in for FF is installed. Maybe I just don't have a clear understanding of the difference between the two.

Do you know how to check Java Script for FF?

Thanks,

eidnolb

no, many friends ask me to hear things on myspace and i can't cause it wont work..
not sure what versions they are running on, but my brother just got a macbook
and i helped him update it to the most recent one and it works flawlessly there..

ok will do, i was wondering if that  update version was necessary

i don't use it, i installed RealPlayer sometime back for some unplayable flv files
on vlc, but i never use it.

i need to update the VLC program (plugin), i use that to play audio files on
wikipedia pages, some of which apply

the MS office plugin's, i have no idea..
i believe they are so one can see a quick *.DOC file on the browser without needed to
open up the software.

and for the Java Script, im not sure, i dont think so.

thanks..

Thanks wx,  Did you find and remove that old Java and reboot? Don't forget that, since Java uses the oldest version!! 🙂

Websites are looking for the latest Java, just like they look for the latest FP. And that is true for IE and FF.

I'm going to leave it up to you to decide which programs that I mentioned to keep or remove. Sometimes old programs that have ActiveX Controls in the add ons can cause problems and you are right, either update them or remove them if not being used is the best policy.

If you are not sure about the Microsoft Office Netscape Navigator, keep it for now.

The plug-in for Office that is a FF plug-in you do want to keep that.

I would think whichever programs you decide to remove, would be removed from Programs and Features and then Reboot. Then check you FF plug-ins, the plug-ins that pertain to the programs you remove should not be there then.

Ok, your JavaScript for FF: Select Options...From the Tools drop-down menu. Select the Content section from the options

at the top of the pop-up page.  Check the "Block pop-up windows," "Load images automatically," "Enable JavaScript" and

"Enable Java" boxes.  Click OK

I'd Remove the old Java and also any old programs you decide to Remove at the same time, so you only need to Reboot

Once.

Don't we have any Java plug-ins for FF???? I just noticed that there were none on the list other than 6U13,6U18 and the Deployment Toolkit, but those were listed under the Plug-ins. None under Add ons?

Just asking about FF, since I don't use it.

Thanks,

eidnolb

yes i have now completely removed the old java.
on FF im going to disable the MS Office plugins,
as i really never use them, been a while since.

javascript is properly enabled.
java, flash and useful/helpful plugins are addes as
plugins on mozilla. the addon's tab is for neat additional
mozilla features, to make ones ff expierence much better
and easier to use.

thanks..

Hi wx, guess I'm not the only one up late. Ok, on the old Java. When the Flash files for FF are correct and the SWF, then add ons can conflict. The office plug-in for Netscape Navigator- I still don't understand why the 2007 Microsoft Office

would need a plugin for Netscape Navigator for Firefox. I understand the MS office live plug-in for FF.

Disabling any add ons and plug-ins other than SWF, Java, Mozilla Default plug-in just for testing exactly like you did for

IE is where I am going with this. We want to see if FF is going to work properly with only the necessary add ons/plug-ins.

Any that you disable can always be added back.

I know FF, if they have anything it is add ons!! LOL

Hopefully, we can have FF working after these adjustments that you've made.

Thanks,

eidnolb

P.S. I didn't think to mention to have you check for any CA add ons/plug-ins etc that may be in FF. If you find any, just disable for testing FF on the websites.

My sis has a new iMac, 24" monitor:-)
