It appears that a lot of people are having Flash problems with Vista. Sony's Crackle site also does not work. After visiting MS forums --- I have tried every suggestion (uninstall, re-install, internet options, install of debug tool, etc.) and it still does not work on youtube or Crackle. I'm about out of ideas, but..... does anyone know what program is set up to handle swf files on a system that works..?? Flash Player is not listed in any of my file types --- and I don't know if it should be or not..??

Hope some kind of solution comes soon.

I'm having the same problem, and I've tried all the methods mentioned. But I've noticed something: when I try to install the newest version of the flash player and click 'show details' it claims to be only installing for Opera, a browser which I used briefly before uninstalling a couple of months ago. It would help if the Adobe installer had a bit more interactivity, and one could set which browsers to use....

People I have BETTER Temporary FIX! Go search and watch your youtube videos on video.google.com! Now DON'T click on the actual youtube page link. Instead, click on where it says WATCH VIDEO HERE. It should play a working video embed on the google page itself. Here's an example - http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=WoW+toyota&sitesearch=

So why can't YouTube get off their lazy asses and fix this problem? Or at least make some sort of announcement about this issue and they are working on it etc....

But we don't all use Mozilla. Some of us here still prefer IE7 for various reasons.

I was also having this problem and made things even worse trying to fix it!

I was told to uninstall and reinstall Flash 9. When I did the uninstall I noticed that one of the .ocx files was still in the FLash folder and would not delete. I changed the .ocx file by making the ext .ocx.txt, which allowed me to delete it...but now when I go to reinstall Flash again the installation errors out and won't complete!

Can anyone please help me at least make it so that I can install Flash again? I cannot BELIEVE all the trouble this Youtube issue has caused me. Totally unprofessional of them to create such a problem and do so little to fix it!

Youtube now has an announcement dated 10/23/2007 on their help page that they are aware of problems with their flash detection code for users with ad blocking software enabled and are working on a resolution. As a workaround, you can completely disable ad blocking as they suggest, or you can define a custom rule just for Youtube (site="youtube.com", rule=accept the HTML string "width=").

Don't forget to delete all your temporary internet files and restart IE/Firefox after making this (or any) change or it won't have an immediate effect.

I don't know about myspace, but read youtube's announcement - http://youtubestatus.blogspot.com/2007/10/system-alert-error-javascript-turned.html

They even said in an email reply to me that there is something wrong with their site. Maybe myspace has a similar flash detection code error since we're using a new version of flash right now. But if you still believe there is still something wrong with Flash player itself and want to waste your time uninstalling, reinstalling, messing around with the registry and such go right ahead. Just know that the last time something like this happened I had tried everything including messing around with my registry (as per the instructions of an adobe techie) and nothing worked. In the end it was youtube's fault cause a few days later it worked perfectly for me again.

And another thing, the fact that we can play the same youtube video embeds on Google's site tells me that it is indeed the youtube website itself that has something wrong with it.

I noticed when I went to uninstall flash I was not showing a file size to the right, it was blank. Still after 3 attempts to uninstall, then reinstall it does not appear to have actually loaded anything
BUT when I do file search for flash, come up with dozens of files that appear to be the program. It's in there somewhere. Cant figure this one out
