No sign of Flash Player after install

I have tried to uninstall Flash Player (using the Adobe uninstall program, deleting Flash directories and rebooting) and install it again and when I use any webpage with flash I do not see the flash player. Flash does not work with any browser. Youtube does not work, in Firefox I get a black screen. If I do the https:// with Youtube it does work. When I go to the http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ page, I see nothing. When I check the add-on managers I see the plugin in Firefox and extension in IE. My understanding is that Flash is built in to Chrome, so I do not understand how it could not work. I don't see Gloval settings panels at macromedia.

Operating System: WIndows 7 64bit

Browsers: IE 9.0 not 64 bit, Firefox 6.02, Google Chrome

Flash Player: Shockwave Flash 11.0.1.152 (flashplayer_11_ax_debug_32bit.exe)

Virus Protection: CA Security Center 7.0.0.279

I have tried some of the troubleshooting including going into the settings in IE checking for Active X Filtering, checking the flash settings in control panel, turned off my virus protection and firewall etc.

From what I've noticed, the uninstaller tool (11.0r1 in my case) doesn't seem to do a good job at removing Flash Player (11.1.102.55 in my case).

I tried many alterations and it seems only to happen when removing the product via Adobe's tool. I didn't get this problem using Add & Remove Programs...

All I had to do is run the installer (install_flash_player_11_active_x_32bit.msi in my case) and you'll have the option to repair or remove.. choose remove.

What files do you have in folder C:\Windows\syswow64\Macromed\Flash?

Can you list the contents of file FlashInstall.log in that folder?

Is there any reason why you use the debug version of Flash Player?  If you do not debug Flash content, you better download the standard version from http://forums.adobe.com/thread/909550

Get W.. I tried your suggestion of using the regular flash 11, removing the flash using the flash uninstaller and the directory and then installing "install_Flash_player_11_active_x_64bit.exe". It still does not work. Here is the log:

Go to http://forums.adobe.com/thread/909550 and download

  • the 64-bit uninstaller
  • both 64-bit installers

then close all browser windows and run the downloaded uninstaller, followed by the installers.

Does it work now?  If not, please list again all files you have in the install folder, and the contents of FlashInstall.log

I was having the same problem using Internet Explorer—try the same with Firefox if you can and this is how I solved it. This worked for me—it may not work for you.
First go to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and install Adobe Flash Player for your computer.
Click to open Internet Explorer.

  1. Click the Tools button , and then click Manage add-ons.
  2. Under Add-on Types, click Toolbars and Extensions.
  3. Under Show,
    • To display a complete list of the add-ons on your computer, click “All add-ons” on the left bottom under “Show”.
Under “Name” go to “Adobe Systems Incorporation” select “Shockwave Flash Object” right click on “Disabled” and click on “Enabled”
Also make sure “Shockwave ActiveX” is also “Enabled:
  4. When you're finished, click Close.

This worked for me—I hope it will work for you, but there is no guarantees that it will work for you. I am old and almost blind and know very little about this stuff, but this worked for me.
I have 32bit computer and you have a 64bit—maybe that is why it does not work with your computer??? I hope an Adobe support will help you soon.
There seems to be a bug in the installing of the new Adobe Flash Player 11 that leaves this add on (
“Shockwave Flash Object”) disabled. The result is that when you need it for video content—you get the message to install Adobe Flash Player again, even if you know that you just installed it and it said successfully. After I enabled (“Shockwave Flash Object”) - Flash player works fine.

This what I did to enable (
“Shockwave Flash Object”)First go to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and install Adobe Flash Player for your computer.Click to open Internet Explorer.

Also make sure “Shockwave ActiveX” is also “Enabled":
  4. When you're finished, click Close.
