Video and Audio Don't Work. getPLusPlus_adobe_reg.exe Application error?

New Here ,
Jul 11, 2010 Jul 11, 2010

A couple of days ago, I noticed videos would not load. I investigated further and found out my Adobe Flash player was faulty and probably out of date. Around the same time, I noticed a dialog box opened when I opened Mozilla Firefox, the main broswer I use. It was titled getPlusPlus_adobe_reg.exe application error and said it could not be read from memory. I've tried reinstalling Adobe Flash but to no avail. When trying to view Youtube videos, I find the black background for the video, which turns white after loading the page.

Can anyone please help rectify this? Thanks.

Hi, So even tho you didn't see the animation, was a Flash Player version listed or was it greyed out? Also did you Disable those two add ons?

Do you use adblock? Any pop-up blocking software installed? Also you will need to post back your anti-virus so I can take a look at that. Clearly something is blocking Flash content.

Thanks,

Hi, you need to post your operating system, browser(s) and versions, if Windows if it is a 64bit. Did you use the Adobe Uninstaller and follow the Instructions? What version of Flash Player did you Uninstall and what version have you tried to Install?

Where did you try to Install from, what site?  This information will help to determine how to help.

Thanks,

eidnolb

I have WIndows Xp, using Mozilla Firefox version 3.6.6 and 32 bit. Yep, I used the uninstaller and followed the instructions. I'm not quite sure which version was uninstalled as I tried various times but I'm pretty sure I tried to download the latest version of Adobe Flash player. I've kinda looked through other threads and I tried to install flash player from http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.ex  e. One of the threads you responded to.

Hi, I see Pat and I replied to you at exactly the same time:-)

Now anytime I see someone using XP, I must ask do you have the Service Pack 3 Installed?

Ok, I know that Flash Player Installer for Firefox is right:-) However, since you seemed to have gotten tangled up with the

getplus, you must have Installed elsewhere first.

I just read your latest post. I think you need to go to C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash  Open Flash and post back all Flash files listed there. The NPSWF file(s) need a right click and then click Properties to obtain the version numbers.

Also, Using Firefox find the SWF vs 10.1.53.64 plug-in and make sure it is Enabled. Also check in add ons, extensions and plug-ins and see if any getplus or DLM is there.

This will give us the info needed so we know how to proceed.

Thanks,

eidnolb

Yep, I guess both of you are in tune and always willing to help.

Yep, I've got Service Pack 3. The files I've got are:

FlashInstall.log

flashplayer.xpt

install.log

FlashUtil10h_Plugin.exe

NPSWF32.dll

and a FlashPlayerTrust folder

The NPSWF32 file is version 10.1.53.64. SWF is enabled in Firefox. getPlusPlus for Adobe 16263 is a plugin, and Adobe DLM 1.6.2.63 is an extension. Both are enabled.

Hi, thanks for good info. There could be several reasons for your problems. First there is the hardware acceleration feature that is turned ON by default with Flash Player version 10.1. Turning this off has helped many users. You can go to youtube and bring up a video and right click on the video and click setting. You should then see a Display Setting

and UN check it. In addition, it is recommended to update the graphic and video drivers to the latest versions. You can try just turning off the hardware acceleration if your drivers are up to date.

Then  there is the issue of Firefox version 3.6.6 and Flash Player 10.1 together crashing, not on all systems, but many.

Also the DLM(download manager) with the getplusplus which most likely is also in the Add/Remove. In addition the getplusplus plug-in and the Adobe DLM extension.

So, that is my assessment:-)

Let's do the first one, turning off the hardware acceleration.

Second, check in the Add/Remove for those above.

The Firefox 3.6.6 and Flash Player 10.1 is more complicated.

Thanks,

eidnolb

Thanks for the reply. I can't exactly turn off the hardware acceleration. I understand you right click the video but I can't seem to do that. The video is replaced by white and right clicking it only results in the hourglass hovering beside my cursor. Is there any other way to turn off the hardware acceleration?

Onto the second issue, I can't seem to find any of those you mentioned in the add or remove, if you are referring to the add or remove programs in the control panel. Sorry that nothing seems to be working.

Hi, ok. See if this will work. Right click on the red "box" on the top right and then click Settings, this should bring up the Display Settings.  http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/

If you went to Add/Remove via Control Panel and didn't see any DLM(download manager) or getplus listing then they are not there, which is a good thing.

Let me know if that works.

Thanks,

eidnolb

Where is the red box? Is it on the website you linked? If so, I don't see a red box in the top-right.

Ah ok. Thought there was something wrong if the DLM and getPLus weren't in the Add or Remove Programs. Phew

Hi, sorry, it is the only rectangular "box" and looks like a video that can be played. When you just hover the mouse over it, then it turns red, click on it and play, then right click and click Settings.

Hope that explains it better.

Now those getplus and DLM add ons may conflict, but I want to get the hardware acceleration turned off first. Actually any Flash content you can click on. Youtube is the easiest but since you can't bring up the video, this will work also.

Thanks,

eidnolb

I don't see a rectangular box but I assume it's the box underneath the white Abode Flash Player title. When the page is loading, I see a white rectangular space there, but it disappears and results in the title bar being directly above the Adobe Flash Player description i.e Adobe® Flash® Player is a cross-platform browser-based application  runtime that delivers uncompromised viewing of expressive  etc....

It seems that I can't right click on Flash content. The hourglass always appears next to the cursor when I do, and disappears after a while. Sorry that things are working out

First, what is your operating system?

Do you have Flash Player actually installed now?  What do you see at http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/155/tn_15507.html ?

Well it technically installed, as the installation screen said installation successful. However, after reopening Firefox, the getPlusPlus_adobe_reg.exe application error dialog box appears, so I guess something's wrong. And I can't see anything for the website, if you are talking about the thing at the bottom. Tells me to get get the latest version of Flash.

Also, when I tried to manually install it straight from Adobe as in simply going to adobe.com then downloads, I get a dialog box which I assume indicates I was downloading Adobe Download Manager. Every time it would the dialog box with the scrolling green. Don't know if this will help.

Hi, well something is clearly blocking your browser in my opinion. Let's forget about the hardward acceleration for the time being.

Using Firefox, Disable that getplusplus plug-in and also the Adobe DLM in the extensions. Then go to this test site with FF(Firefox) and see if you can see the animation and what version of Flash Player does it say you have.

http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

Thanks,

eidnolb

Thanks for the screenshots, they confirm what you are saying. Let me know the results of the above.

Hmm ok. I went to the websiteand I can't see the animation. I assume its the rectangular box in the middle. A note: when I move over the linked sections of Adobe, various rectangular boxes that are grey and/or blakc appear. Don't know if that is necessary.

Actually, scrap that. I can see it now. I was reinstalling Adobe Flash Player beforehand and now I can see it. It says I have version 10,0,22,87 installed. I guess I don't have the latest version after all... Stupid me

Hi, I just saw your post about the vs 10.0.22.87. This is for Internet Explorer but the files you listed are all for Firefox.

Is Firefox working also? It can get confusing when working with more than one browser.

If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks,

eidnolb

Yea, my Firefox works. My main browser is Firefox, but I do have Internet Explorer which I use just in case, and is sadly neglected.

Hi, thanks. Yes that Flash file is old and you most likely have additional files in the Flash folder for IE also.  Flash Player can be Installed in IE using the offline Installer too. If you wanted to do that, I would need to know what IE Flash Player files are there. You can do that anytime, just post to this thread since it already has most of your info.

Glad Firefox is working:-)

Thanks,

eidnolb

Hey eidnolb. Guess what? Adobe Flash Player isn't working again.... It lasted 1 day before it collapsed. Any suggestions of fixing it again? Also, I was wondering whether Firefox would lag if you didn't have Flash, cuz it a lot faster when Flash was working. Don't know if there's any connection. Please help me out once again.

Hi, Did you break your computer again? LOL, I'll take a look and see what possibly could have happened. So it only worked for a day. It didn't have anything to do with Windows Tuesday(yesterday) Updates? I don't think they had many tho.

Did you Install any new software or Uninstall any? Did Firefox update your browser? Another person had automatic updates for FF turned on and they updated and then they had to Uninstall the new version and go back to the version that worked. So I thot I'd ask.

While you are checking that out, I'll review.

Thanks,

eidnolb
