A couple of days ago, I noticed videos would not load. I investigated further and found out my Adobe Flash player was faulty and probably out of date. Around the same time, I noticed a dialog box opened when I opened Mozilla Firefox, the main broswer I use. It was titled getPlusPlus_adobe_reg.exe application error and said it could not be read from memory. I've tried reinstalling Adobe Flash but to no avail. When trying to view Youtube videos, I find the black background for the video, which turns white after loading the page. ![]()
Can anyone please help rectify this? Thanks.
Hi, So even tho you didn't see the animation, was a Flash Player version listed or was it greyed out? Also did you Disable those two add ons?
Do you use adblock? Any pop-up blocking software installed? Also you will need to post back your anti-virus so I can take a look at that. Clearly something is blocking Flash content.
Thanks,
eidnolb

Hey, yep. I don't think it was Windows Updates. Well I did update my Shockwave Flash, but I don't think that was usccessful. Other than that I don't think I installed or uninstalled anything. I didn't update Firefox. I've reinstalled Adobe Flash, but nothing's changed. Thank you very much for helping (again! lol).

Hi, Did you ever disable that getplusplus in the FF plug-ins and the Adobe DLM in the FF extensions? Remember this is part of the error you received.
I just noticed your reply, you updated Flash Player? Since yesterday when you said it was working?
Take a look at my Post #19 and give me that info.
Then go to Add/Remove and see if there is a DLM (download manager) or a getplus entry listed.
Thanks,
eidnolb

Yep I did disable both the getplusplus and Adobe DLM. Now checking the add ons, I realise that the getplusplus plugin has now disappeared. I am certain that it was there before disabling.
Yep, I updated Flash Player because I realised it wasn't the latest version of Flash. You told to visit that site that had the animation and stated which version of Flash you had. It said I had 10,0,22,87and below it said the latest was 10.1.53.64, so I updated it. It was still working until today. Also, the site you referred me to with the animation and version information has reverted back to the situation in Post 17.
The Flash Player version I have now is currently not listed. The area where it is supposed to be is just white space. I don't use adblock and I don't have any pop-up software installed. I'm using ESET NOD32 Anitvirus.
Neither of them are in my Add/Remove.

Hi, Something is not making sense. In Post#7 you had Flash Player version 10.1.53.64 and you had the SWF plug-in version 10.1.53.64. You had all correct Flash files and the SWF plug-in.
When you went to the test site and could not see the animation and then disable the hardware acceleration, you said then and are now saying that the version the test site said you had was 10.0.22.87. That is when I asked about IE, since that is an IE Flash Player file. You used IE then at that test site, because had you used Firefox, you would not have received that 10.0.22.87. It would have shown version 10.1.53.64.
Keep in mind that Flash Player is a browser plug-in and anytime you do a test you need to test with each browser in order to get a correct test result. You won't get a FF result using IE or vice-versa.
Now you say you updated Flash Player after seeing that the latest was 10.1.53.64 and the test showed you had vs 10.0.22.87.
At this point I don't know which browser you used to update Flash Player. Since the goal posts may have changed I need to know what is in the Flash folders now. Post back all files listed there.
It is always best not to make any major changes when troubleshooting. I'm working on a solution for A and then you make a change to B and then I have to adjust to B and hope that you don't make another change to C before I post what is needed for B.
After you post back the Flash files, then we'll see what is needed next.
Thanks,
eidnolb

Ah... Sorry about the complications. My bad. ![]()
Let's clear things up. During the process, I did not use or refer to Internet Explorer in relation to the troubleshooting and your questions. When I checked the test site, it said I had version 10.0.22.87 whilst I was using Firefox. From there I checked if Flash content worked (and they did), and I assumed the issue was fixed. However, I noted the test site did not say I had the latest version and then I updated Flash to version 10.1.53.64.
I updated Flash using Firefox. I did not use IE in any part of this process. I'm very sorry about the complications.
The Flash folder has:
FlashPlayerTrust Folder
FlashInstall.log
flashplayer.xpt
FlashUtil10h_Plugin.exe
install.log
NPSWF32.dll ---> version 10.0.22.87. Guess this changed when I reinstalled Flash. ![]()

Hi, thanks for the explanation and the new Flash files. That NPSWF32.dll showing version 10.0.22.87 definitely should not be there and I have no idea how it was Installed.
You had already Disabled those two add ons also.
The test site that you used Firefox then for testing was picking up that FP version instead of the FP 10.1.
Now, go to your plug-ins for Firefox and see what version is listed for the SWF and is it enabled.
After you post this info back, I think we'll do a clean Uninstall of Flash Player from all browsers (whether all Installed or not) and then do a clean Install. I'll give you the info, don't do any of that now please.
Oh, by the way, what files do you have in the FlashPlayerTrust? Right click on it to obtain those.
Thanks,

Hey eidnolb. The version of SWF I have is 10.0.22..87 and is enabled right now. In the Flash Player Trust folder, I have rpconverter.cfg.

Hi, that SWF is the old version of Flash Player so now I understand what happened. That SWF and that version is also in your Flash folder, which means they were either not Uninstalled or most likely left in place for some reason that the 10.1 could not be Installed.
The rpconverter.cfg is for RealPlayer. What plug-in, extension or add on of RealPlayer is listed for Firefox? If there are any listed, I would just disable any until after the Uninstall/Install.
I have the info ready for you for that, but need to know if you want Flash Player Installed for IE, since we can do that at the same time.
Let me know.

Ah I see. I've got an extension called RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin 1.0, and two plugins: RealPlayer Version Plugin 6.0.12.709 and RealPlayer (tm) G2 LiveConnect-Enabled Plugin-IN (32-bit). I've disabled them.
I might as well get Flash for IE, just in case.

Hi, Glad you found those RealPlayer plug-ins. If you had the correct Flash files, I think these may conflict, but we'll see.
I would leave them disabled for the time being.
Following are your instructions for an Uninstall and Install for IE & FF.
First, some pre-Un/In steps to take. Go to Tools, Internet Options and make sure Security is set to Medium for the Internet Zone. You can do this now. Next, take a look in the system tray and know how to disable any applications that use Flash(messenger services, etc.)
In addition, I would Disable every add on that you listed, including Toolbars. This will also be done in the steps listed. What I'm trying to do here is to Disable anything that will block or interfere with a successful Install of Flash Player.
If you have adblock in FF, disable it also. You can do that now.
Understand how to disable your Anti-Virus and Firewall (other than Windows Firewall) since you will be disconnected from the Internet.Don't do that now, just when it is listed in the steps that follow in the next post.

eidnolb

Hi, here is your info.
Hi, Download the Uninstaller and SAVE it to your Desktop:
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
Download the Flash Player Installer for Internet Explorer and SAVE it to your Desktop:
http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_ax.exe
Download the Flash Player Installer for Firefox and SAVE it to your Desktop:
http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe
Don't connect back to the Internet until it is listed in the steps.
Now once you have that done, then disconnect from the Internet.
Close all browsers, you'll just be looking at the Desktop
RUN the Uninstaller. When it is finished, Reboot(restart) your computer. Allow it to fully Reboot. Then check Nod32 for all of the components that you Disabled to make sure they did not re-enable. Then Reboot again(to clear out old files) Then check Nod32 again.(If Nod32 has re-enabled either time you check, then Disable as you did again)
When fully Rebooted, RUN the Installer for Firefox and then RUN the Installer for Internet Explorer. When both Installers are finished, Reboot Once.
Now Re-enable your Nod32
Connect back to the Internet
Go to the Flash folder and post back all files now listed. Right click on the NPSWF and then click on Properties to obtain the version number.
Using IE, check in the add ons for the Shockwave Flash Object, it should be listed as vs 10.1.53.64 and Enabled.
Using FF, check for the plug-in SWF vs 10.1.53.64 and it should be Enabled.
You may want to print out these instructions to make it easier to follow. I know this is a lot to do, but when there are problems, it is the best way to insure a clean Uninstall and clean Install.
If you have any questions, let me know.
Thanks,
eidnolb

Hey, thanks for the instructions. Very helpful!
I was wondering what you meant by:
"Then check Nod32 for all of the components that you Disabled to make sure they did not re-enable. Then Reboot again(to clear out old files) Then check Nod32 again.(If Nod32 has re-enabled either time you check, then Disable as you did again)". What do you mean by the disabled components? Not too sure about that. That's the only question I've got.
Thanks very much!

Hi, thanks. NOD32 is your ESET NOD32 Anti-Virus. You will need to Disable your Anti-Virus and if it has a Firewall, that also. Sometimes there are other components that need disabled as well. I am not as familiar with NOD32 as with others, so perhaps you only need to Disable the Anti-Virus and the Firewall (if it has one) That should be enough. I want you to check when I have indicated to make sure it is still Disabled. Some Anti-Virus programs will re-enable themselves after the reboot. We want to make sure that after that last Reboot after the Uninstall and right before running the Install that it is still Disabled. Otherwise it can block the Install.
The then Disable as you did again means if is has re-enabled itself when you check, just disable it again in the same way you did the first time before running the Uninstaller.
Hope this explains it better.
Thanks,
eidnolb

Hey eidnolb. Thanks for your reply and explanation!
Not sure if this is a major problem, but I've realised the RealPlayer addons on Firefox won't disable. Once I disable them, they are re-enabled when I restart Firefox. What do you think?

Hi, well the Firefox browser and RealPlayer/Windows Media Player/Quicktime/ etc etc are quite involved. Appears there are a lot of conflicts and many many solutions. I don't have the time to troubleshoot Firefox. Even the solutions are pages and pages of try this and try that. RealPlayer plays certain files, WMP plays certain files, QuickTime plays certain files, so I guess you need all of those Players to be able to play the various files. You probably understand this more than I:-) Sounds complicated to me![]()
All I can suggest is Disable all of the RealPlayer add ons etc, and proceed with the Uninstall and Install of Flash Player. Hopefully by re-enabling themselves that won't bother the Install of FP. I think perhaps in using RP is where the conflict may occur. We just want to get Flash Player taken care of now.
That is the only opinion I have on RP.
Thanks,
eidnolb

Ok then. I followed your instructions and this is what I got.
I did everything and before I connected back to the Internet, the SWF file's version was 10.1.53.64. I was following the changes in the Flash Folder and found that after uninstalling Flash and rebooting, a SWF file was back in the folder with version 10.0.22.87. The version changed after I ran both installers. The SWF remained version 10.1.53.64 after rebooting, and re-enabling NOD32. However, after reconnecting to the Internetthe SWF file version reverted back to 10.0.22.87. Annoying.... ![]()
Now my Flash folder has:
FlashPlayerTrust folder
Flash10h.ocx ---> version 10.1.53.64
FlashInstall.log
flashplayer.xpt
FlashUtil10h_ActiveX.dll ----> version 10.1.53.64
FlashUtil10h_ActiveX.exe ----> version 10.1.53.64
FlashUtil10h_Plugin.exe ----->version 10.1.53.64
install.log
NPSWF32.dll ----> version 10.0.22.87
IE is fine, the Shockwave Flash Object is version 10.1.53.64 and enabled. This isn't the case for Firefox which has SWF version 10.0.22.87.

Hi, well you did a great job with that Uninstall and Install:-) All of your Flash files and the SFO for Internet Explorer are correct and should be working for you.
Take a look at the Firefox plug-ins. Is there more than one listing for a SWF listed? If so, let me know and don't do the following. However if not, then proceed with removing the following.
The Firefox Flash file NPSWF32.dll has that old 10.0.22.87 as well as the SWF plug-in. I would go to the Flash folder and right click on that NPSWF32.dll and Remove or Delete it. Then go to the Firefox plug-in SWF 10.0.22.87 and Remove it.
I'm just curious, did the RealPlayer "gang" re-enable? LOL Did NOD32 re-enable on either Reboot?
Thanks,
eidnolb

Hey eidnolb. Sorry about the very late response. Well I do have one SWF plugin but I've just realised that I have a Shockwave for Director Netscape plug-in. I'm not sure if that affect anything nor if it counts as another SWF plug-in. I've had it for a while, and haven't bothered to get rid of it.
The Realplayer "gang" certainly re-enabled when I re-opened Firefox. NOD32 re-enabled after each reboot but they doubt it affected Flash because I still had the latest version with it on before reconnecting to the Internet.

Hi, don't worry about when you respond, we all have different schedules:-) That Shockwave for Director is not Flash Player related.
That RealPlayer gang re-enabling really surprises me. Normally when any add on is Disabled, it stays that way. I wonder what is controlling that? It is acting like RP is the browser and FF is the add on!! Strange, I think.
That NOD32 would doesn't surprise me, since many Anti-Virus programs do re-enable. Which really causes issues when trying to Install Flash Player.
Now that you have Flash Player Installed in IE, have you tried any videos? Also, if you have and they have not played properly I would try to turn off that hardware acceleration.
Let me know on that since it would be nice if we can get one IE working with FP as it should.
I've been researching that RealPlayer and there is a lot of conflicts with that RealPlayer Browser Record Plug-in 1.0.
You may want to read this from Adobe and it is the latest I found on it.

Hey eidnolb. Flash works for IE, and videos work. You told me to remove the NPSWF.dll file and the SWF plug-in. Should I continue to do so? Also should I get rid of Shockwave for Director as well? I won't be needing it anyways.
Thanks

Hi Lumit, IE is working with videos????WOW, that is an improvement. How about audio? At least you have one browser working. We'll continue working on FF, since you may prefer that. Speaking of which, FF updated to vs 3.6.7, mostly for security issues tho from what I have read.
Hold off on that NPSWF32.dll and the SWF add on. Sometimes things correct themselves. Are they still listed with the old version number?
On the Shockwave for Director, I always remove programs that I don't use enough to keep them on my system. I figure if I need them I'll Install them at that time. Any program you don't use, I'd remove.
Thanks for the info. Will post back later.

Hi Lumit, So audio & video is working in IE, that's good. Firefox updated to 3.6.7, ok too. I cannot understand why the SWF is still vs 10.0.22.87 and the NPSWF32.dll also. Why that didn't update when you Uninstalled/Installed the last time.
Is that getplusplus plug-in still disabled in Firefox? What about the Adobe DLM extension?
Also you may want to go to Start>My Computer, right click on Local Disk(C:) and open it. Find the Program files folder and right click on it. Look for a folder NOS, right click and open it and post back if it is there and what files if any are there.
This is connected to those add ons in FF.

Hey eidnolb. I said in a previous post that the getplusplus plug-in disappeared after I disabled it. The Adobe DLM extension is still disabled.

Hi Lumit, ok on the getplusplus not being there. Is there any way you can remove/delete that Adobe DLM in the extensions? See if you can search on Mozilla Firefox.
Ok on not finding an NOS folder. The problem still remains in FF of that NPSWF32.dll vs 10.0.22.87 and the SWF same plug-in.
Since IE is finally working for you, I hate to do another Uninstall since this will of course Uninstall Flash Player from IE as well. Before 10.1 came out one of the other Flash files could be used to update, but now it will Uninstall.
The only thing I know what to try is Use the FF browser and go to this test site and see if you get any message to update the Flash Player. Things that used to work have been changed, so I'm not sure if this will work or not. Try both links.
