Video and Audio Don't Work. getPLusPlus_adobe_reg.exe Application error?

A couple of days ago, I noticed videos would not load. I investigated further and found out my Adobe Flash player was faulty and probably out of date. Around the same time, I noticed a dialog box opened when I opened Mozilla Firefox, the main broswer I use. It was titled getPlusPlus_adobe_reg.exe application error and said it could not be read from memory. I've tried reinstalling Adobe Flash but to no avail. When trying to view Youtube videos, I find the black background for the video, which turns white after loading the page.

Can anyone please help rectify this? Thanks.

Hmm ok. I went to the websiteand I can't see the animation. I assume its the rectangular box in the middle. A note: when I move over the linked sections of Adobe, various rectangular boxes that are grey and/or blakc appear. Don't know if that is necessary.

Hi, So even tho you didn't see the animation, was a Flash Player version listed or was it greyed out? Also did you Disable those two add ons?

Do you use adblock? Any pop-up blocking software installed? Also you will need to post back your anti-virus so I can take a look at that. Clearly something is blocking Flash content.

Hi, well something is clearly blocking your browser in my opinion. Let's forget about the hardward acceleration for the time being.

Using Firefox, Disable that getplusplus plug-in and also the Adobe DLM in the extensions. Then go to this test site with FF(Firefox) and see if you can see the animation and what version of Flash Player does it say you have.

Thanks for the screenshots, they confirm what you are saying. Let me know the results of the above.

Hi, Something is not making sense. In Post#7 you had Flash Player version 10.1.53.64 and you had the SWF plug-in version 10.1.53.64. You had all correct Flash files and the SWF plug-in.

When you went to the test site and could not see the animation and then disable the hardware acceleration, you said then and are now saying that the version the test site said you had was 10.0.22.87. That is when I asked about IE, since that is an IE Flash Player file. You used IE then at that test site, because had you used Firefox, you would not have received that 10.0.22.87. It would have shown version 10.1.53.64.

Keep in mind that Flash Player is a browser plug-in and anytime you do a test you need to test with each browser in order to get a correct test result. You won't get a FF result using IE or vice-versa.

Now you say you updated Flash Player after seeing that the latest was 10.1.53.64 and the test showed you had vs 10.0.22.87.

At this point I don't know which browser you used to update Flash Player. Since the goal posts may have changed I need to know what is in the Flash folders now. Post back all files listed there.

It is always best not to make any major changes when troubleshooting. I'm working on a solution for A and then you make a change to B and then I have to adjust to B and hope that you don't make another change to C before I post what is needed for B.

After you post back the Flash files, then we'll see what is needed next.

    Thanks,

    eidnolb

Ah... Sorry about the complications. My bad.

Let's clear things up. During the process, I did not use or refer to Internet Explorer in relation to the troubleshooting and your questions. When I checked the test site, it said I had version 10.0.22.87 whilst I was using Firefox. From there I checked if Flash content worked (and they did), and I assumed the issue was fixed. However, I noted the test site did not say I had the latest version and then I updated Flash to version 10.1.53.64.

I updated Flash using Firefox. I did not use IE in any part of this process. I'm very sorry about the complications.

    The Flash folder has:

    FlashPlayerTrust Folder

    FlashInstall.log

    flashplayer.xpt

    FlashUtil10h_Plugin.exe

    install.log

NPSWF32.dll  ---> version 10.0.22.87. Guess this changed when I reinstalled Flash.

First, what is your operating system?

Do you have Flash Player actually installed now?  What do you see at http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/155/tn_15507.html ?

Well it technically installed, as the installation screen said installation successful. However, after reopening Firefox, the getPlusPlus_adobe_reg.exe application error dialog box appears, so I guess something's wrong. And I can't see anything for the website, if you are talking about the thing at the bottom. Tells me to get get the latest version of Flash.

Also, when I tried to manually install it straight from Adobe as in simply going to adobe.com then downloads, I get a dialog box which I assume indicates I was downloading Adobe Download Manager. Every time it would the dialog box with the scrolling green. Don't know if this will help.

Hi, you need to post your operating system, browser(s) and versions, if Windows if it is a 64bit. Did you use the Adobe Uninstaller and follow the Instructions? What version of Flash Player did you Uninstall and what version have you tried to Install?

Where did you try to Install from, what site?  This information will help to determine how to help.

    Thanks,

I have WIndows Xp, using Mozilla Firefox version 3.6.6 and 32 bit. Yep, I used the uninstaller and followed the instructions. I'm not quite sure which version was uninstalled as I tried various times but I'm pretty sure I tried to download the latest version of Adobe Flash player. I've kinda looked through other threads and I tried to install flash player from http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.ex  e. One of the threads you responded to.

Hi, I see Pat and I replied to you at exactly the same time:-)

Now anytime I see someone using XP, I must ask do you have the Service Pack 3 Installed?

Ok, I know that Flash Player Installer for Firefox is right:-) However, since you seemed to have gotten tangled up with the

getplus, you must have Installed elsewhere first.

I just read your latest post. I think you need to go to C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash  Open Flash and post back all Flash files listed there. The NPSWF file(s) need a right click and then click Properties to obtain the version numbers.

Also, Using Firefox find the SWF vs 10.1.53.64 plug-in and make sure it is Enabled. Also check in add ons, extensions and plug-ins and see if any getplus or DLM is there.

This will give us the info needed so we know how to proceed.

    Thanks,
