Applying master page doesn't work

I imported a Word file into a FM 9 book and converted the text inset to regular text. When I try to apply the master page, nothing happens (Format > Page Layout > Master Page Usage > Custom). I must be missing something? I don't see the correct paragraph styles in the designer, headers, etc.

Please share a little bit more information.

You can not "import a Word file into a FM book", you can open a Word document with FrameMaker (sometimes), you can import a Word document by reference (a "Text Inset") or by copy, you can also use the clipboard to get text into FrameMaker.

If you don’t see the usual formats in the format catalogs, you may have to import them from a template. Just guessing…

How many master pages does your document have? What behavior do you expect?

The usual problems with AMP (Apply Master Pages) failures is one of:

• The mapping table doesn't exist.
  This is the UnstructMasterPageMaps object on Reference Page "MasterPageMaps".
• The mapping table does exist, but one or named Master Pages doesn't exist, or has a slightly different name. It only takes one missing page name for an AMP request to fail.
  
• The mapping table exists, the MPs exist and match, but the text on the Body page doesn't have a precisely matching paragraph format* name.
  
• You invoked:
  
• Apply Master Pages
  from the Update Book menu. In Fm7.x, this is unstable. Also, even if this feature is fixed in later versions, in a book, each component .fm file must have its own mapping table, which must be valid for that .fm file.

* I've never tested to see if AMP is sensitive to whether or not the para fmt is in the Catalog.
