Bookmarks not in PDF where they should be

New Here ,

I have been having this problem with Frame 8 as well as in 9. When I generate my PDF, my bookmarks are not all where they should be. The will not always appear in the order of the pages, and they will be listed under other headings. An example would be, if I had 3 top level tags and each one had 5 things listed under them, When I generate, I might get 6 bookmarks under the first, 4 under the second, and 5 under the third, instead of five under each one.

I have done everything I can think of, and cannot come up with a reason why it is doing this? Any ideas? I can always send a section to someone so they can actually see what I am talking about. At this point, I am not 100% sure if it is Frame or Acrobat, but I am leaning towards Frame.

Thanks

I have run into this with FM 13, and went down all the ratholes in this thread. The fix I finally settled on was to copy the offending chapter file to a non-book filename, then copy/write a known good chapter over the offending chapter. Open the new chapter file and delete all the wrong content. Open the offending chapter (which is now no longer part of the book) and copy all the body page text flows into the blank new chapter. If needed, apply appropriate changes to master/ref pages and number, and you should be off to the races.

BTW, I have also used this method to fix the infamous missing color error popup.

My conclusion in both cases is that the file became corrupted and there is no way to fix it via the FrameMaker interface.

All of my bookmarks are set up according to the way the need to be throughout the book. Very simple Level 1: Title, Level 2: Heading1, Level 3: Heading 2, Level 4: Heading 3, Level 4:Parent Description Reference, that’s whats so baffling about this, the last three chapters are Appendix A, Appendix B and Appendix C. Appendix A shows up with all bookmarks correct, Appendix B only has one bookmark, which is level 1:Title, and Appendix C has the paragraph tags to make all the bookmarks, When saving as or printing to PDF, most of Appendix C’s bookmarks will show up under Appendix B in the PDF.

It happens now in FrameMaker 10.

Similar to nateatdel's response, you can try

  • copy/paste into a new doc
  • File>Import>File into a new doc
  • Save as MIF

All these should work if the problem is a slightly corrupted Fm file.

I also suggest you download a trial of Fm 2017 to see if the same thing occurs within the current release.

OS, Fm, and Acrobat tend to do better when they're all about the same age.

What do you mean, save as MIF?
