Can't save work after reinstalling FM 7.0--any tips?

My associate finally had her computer updated, and so all software had to be reinstalled. The FM 7.0 reinstalled OK, but now she is unable to save files. She has to use Save As. The registration dialog popped up, and she filled it out with what she thought was likely to be the original registration info. However, our corporate name and e-mail address have changed. We've been using FM 7.0 since 2003 and I think she's been on the same machine since then.

Did FM 7.0 have the activation/reactivation requirement that FM 9.0 has? Does anyone have a good guess as to why she can't save with Ctrl-S? Is there some special protocol for reinstalling?

Thanks,

Mike

How was the computer updated? What is the new OS?

    New machine, same XP OS.

Update: She's saving OK today, the first since FM was reinstalled last Thurs. Her problem was with Ctrl-S, nothing else. Don't understand why OK now--maybe user error--who can say. I discovered that the installer accidentally managed to install from one CD using the serial # from a different CD. Maybe that had an effect--jeeez.

I'm curious about Sheila's caution to install all patches to date in order. It occurs to me that patches are usually cumulative, the latest incorporating the preceding patches of a sequence. So shouldn't we suffice to install only the latest FM 7.0 patch? We've been running 7.0p579 by the way.

    Thanks for the replies,

    Mike

That's the weird thing about Adobe - the patches are sequential, not cumulative. Got to do them in order ;>)

Actually, the whether the patches are cumulative or sequential depends on the product. In the case of FrameMaker, they are typically sequential.

In addition to getting the patches installed, is it likely that someone like your IT department installed the program as an Administrator or another user name? If so, your friend may not have permissions high enough to save.

And if you're working on existing documents and trying to save them after making changes, the same type of thing may apply -- the new system may not have the same permissions set in the same way.

To clarify, a few questions. What specific version of FM 7.0, the "pxxx" numbers from Help > About. Be sure to look for the updates on the Adobe website, and be sure to install them sequentially, individually.

When you say "can't save" and then you mention "Save As", it's a bit unclear as to what specifically is not working -- is she 1) unable to save FM files at all, or 2) can she not save an FM file under another name with Save As, or 3) can she not save as a particular type of other file, e.g. Save As PDF.
