Question

Can the parentheses be removed from a cross referenced numbered tag?

I have cross references to "numbered" paragraph tags.  In the document, the lines with numbered tags have a right parentheses marker after the number.  When I make a cross reference to these items, the parenthese is included.  Is there a way to exclude the prarentheses in the cross referenced item?

Thank you in advance,

Bill

What are the building blocks used in the x-ref? If the parantheses are part of the paragraph text, then they will always get picked up. If they are part of the autonumber, then try using the <$paranumonly> building block.

    Arnis,

Thank you for your suggestions.  Looks like I need to stick with <paranumonly>. For now, I'll need to live with the parentheses markier coming along in the cross reference marker.

    speculation:

your autonumbering definition looks a bit like this F:Figure <n+>) and give you text that looks like this Figure 7) the Aardvark sanctuary

    cross-ref options and results:

    <$paranum> <$paratext>

    Figure 7) the Aardvark sanctuary

    <$paranumonly> <$paratext>

    7 the Aardvark sanctuary

    Figure <$paranumonly> <$paratext>

    Figure 7 the Aardvark sanctuary

    Being able to mix text and building blocks gives us a level of flexibility for cross-ref formatting that users of other applications can only dream of :-}

My actual paragraph tag looks like this:  <Hyperlink><$paranumonly>

I don't know why, but the parenthesis always comes along with the number.  In your suggestion, the text comes along as well and I only want the number.

    Thank you for your suggestion.
