Cannot create New book or open existing books FM2020 error 16054

I have been searching for a solution to this problem. I have had IT uninstall, redownload, and reinstall FM2020 to my system twice. I cannot upgrade to 2022. Here is my issue:

I attempted to generate a TOC for a book and it gave me an internal error 16054. That is when I did the above troubleshooting. However, even after doing this, I cannot open any books in any projects, whether I made the original book or not. I also cannot create a new book based on the files from the original books. Attempting to create a new book doesn't generate the fatal error. Attempting to open an existing book does. I have read the forum post suggesting changing the file name in C:/Users/[user name]/AppData etc., but no folder called AppData exists in my user profile. There are not that many posts with solutions to this issue, especially current ones in for this version of FM.

Something about generating the ToC for a book triggered an internal error that is now causing me major issues. If I could make a new book and add the files, that would be fine, though annoying, but I can't even create a new book. I have no idea what is going on or what to do. I have an email out to Adobe support, but I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this. I am not a computer Admin, so I cannot mess around with uninstalling or installing without contacting my company's IT support.

Anyone else? Anyone with a solution?

Thanks in advance.

No, try out the suggestion of renaming your C:\Users\{user_nam}\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\FrameMaker\{version} and restarting FM.

Hi Katherine,

Please see below for an example of the answer that I got from Adobe Customer Support when I had a similar problem.

1. With FrameMaker closed, go to C:\Users\zornitzadoneva\AppData\

2. In View, add a check mark to Hidden Items to see them.

3. Go to C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\FrameMaker

4. Rename folder 16 to 16_old or else.
5 Restart FrameMaker and try to open a the files that were crushing during opening). It should be successful because FM has returned to the initial sett

Your Appdata folder is a hidden file in Windows - you need to change your File Explorer's View setting to show hidden files

Thank you for the advice; I found the logs.

So with this issue, my only recourse is to send those logs to Adobe and hope they get back to me or have a solution?
