Conditional Expressions Not Saving

New Here ,
May 22, 2025 May 22, 2025

I am having a situation where I build conditional expressions and save the document, but the expressions are gone when I close and reopen the document. I have the same expressions saved in other documents in the same book, but they only seem to disapper in this document and not the others associated with the book. Any idea as to what could cause something like that to happen? Happy to provide more details if needed.

Are any other changes you make to the docs saved? Are you using any source or version control? (and what version of FM are we talking about here?)

Hi,

Do you use structured or nonstructured FrameMaker?

If structured, do you use FM files or XML?

Which FrameMaker version do you use (Help | About)?

Conditional expressions should not disappear. Are they just not applied? Or completely gone? Did you use a new name for your expression or did you keep "Default Expression"?

Best regards, Winfried

Hello! Thank you for your response. Answers below:

  • Nonstructured
  • Version: 17.0.4.628
  • The expressions I created are all completely gone from the list of expressions. The only expression availabe is the Default Expression, which I did not use. Just a note that this is in only one of the book documents. The rest of the book documents retain the custom expressions.

And are any other changes you made to the doc preserved?

Yes. Everything gets saved other than these custom expressions.

Hi,

OK. If only a single file is affected, I would just make a copy of your working files, delete all content and paste the content of the non-working file. Possibly make a MIF wash of the non-working file first.

Then see, if this file works now.

Best regards, Winfried
