Error at opening FM9, even after uninstall/new download
I've been using FM9 at work daily since it came out. I have not had any 9004 errors until yesterday morning. The error message displays and FM9 quits when the program is a few seconds into the opening process, when the Localization progress bar has moved about 1/3 of the way. The program does not progress far enough to open the program window.

All other programs on this PC with XP are working, including the Adobe CS4 Suite.
I have all programs, including XP and Adobe programs, set for automatic download of updates.

I uninstalled Winamp and powered off. It seemed unlikely that Winamp affects FM9, but it is the only program I've installed in the past few days.
I powered on, downloaded FM9 and installed it in "Repair" mode.
FM9 still quit with the same error code at the same place in the progress bar.

I uninstalled FM9 and powered off.
I powered on and did a "Complete" install.
FM9 still quit with the same error code at the same place in the progress bar.
3.
I asked our IT guy for help.
IT uninstalled FM9 and also deleted FM AppData files and any FM in the registry.
IT turned off all virus protection programs.
We did a "Complete" install again.
FM9 still quit with the same error code at the same place in the progress bar.

As a temporary workaround, IT set up my PC with a virtual machine and we installed FM9 on that.
It works, but is too cumbersome for long-term use.
IT said that creating a new user name would work but because of the way our internal network is set up, this is not an option for me.
The tentative conclusion is that I have a program on this PC that is interfering with FM9.
When IT looked at my most recent updates, there were none for the several days before this problem started.
IT is considering giving me a new hard drive with Windows 7, which means I would have to uninstall and reinstall everything from one hard drive to the other, redo all my preference settings, etc. Any suggestions on what to try before we do this? My concern is that since I need to reinstall 100% of the programs on my current hard drive to the new one, is that I will get the same error.
I only found these two tickets on this error, so the problem doesn't appear to be widespread:
